LG's problems stem from galvanic corrosion

It has been opined that LG rushed its G Watch to market to launch shortly after Google I/O alongside its competition from Samsung, and it appears that a few things went unchecked in the process according to Android Police.
LG has sent out a fresh OTA update to address an issue with the exposed charging pins on the underside of the G Watch. Owners have witnessed galvanic corrosion on the pins due to the fact that an electric current is running through two of the five pins at all times -- the corrosion has been bad enough to disable charging for some users.
Some G Watch owners have reported discomfort while wearing the device, while some have softer minor burns on their sweaty skin.

For its part, LG has issued the following statement:
Recently it has come to our attention that a small number of G Watch devices have been reported to have developed discoloration and residue buildup on the terminal pins located on the back. While completely safe and unlikely to affect charging, LG will be rolling out a maintenance release over the next few days that will disable the current when the G Watch is not in the charging dock.
As the above statement notes, the fix is as simple as turning off the two offending pins and only enabling them when the device is actually charging. This seems like an oversight that would have been caught during early prototype testing of the G Watch, but at least LG has identified the problem and has a solution in place.
