Slingbox M1 will retail for $149.99

Sling Media introduced its previous generation Slingbox 350 and 500 nearly a year ago, and it’s time for a hardware update. The Slingbox 350, which was previously available for $179.99, is getting the axe to make way for the brand new Slingbox M1.

The Slingbox M1 includes all the functionality of the discontinued Slingbox 350 along with a few new additions including dual-band Wi-Fi (the previous model was Ethernet-only) and the ability to configure the device using an iOS/Android app. The Slingbox M1 is also a smaller device, so it won’t take up as much space on your A/V shelf (it also no longer looks like a science experiment gone wrong).

One thing that the Slingbox M1 hasn’t added, however, is HDMI support. But you can at least take solace in the fact that it comes with a lower price tag: $149.99 versus $179.99 for the Slingbox 350.

The Slingbox M1 will be available starting July 20.

In less interesting news, the Slingbox 500 has been renamed the SlingTV. While its hardware is carryover, it will feature a completely redesigned user interface to make it easier to discover new content. The software update will also be made available to existing Slingbox 500 users for free this August.
