The Cyan update brings both Windows Phone 8.1 and device-specific updates

Windows Phone 8.1 will start its rollout to Lumia smartphone owners today along with the new Nokia “Cyan” update. Windows Phone 8.1 brings with it a number of new features and tweaks including the Cortana personal digital assistant, customizable Live Tiles, support for virtual buttons, and a new Action Center.
Other new features in Windows Phone 8.1 include the Word Flow keyboard, Wi-Fi Sense and an improved Internet Explorer 11 browser.
While all of the new functionality included with Windows 8.1 was expected, Microsoft has also announced that there will be Nokia-exclusive enhancements as well with the Cyan update. There are improvements included for Nokia’s Camera, Creative Studio and Storyteller apps, while a new Nokia Device Hub app makes it easier to track down missing accessories that you use with your device.

In addition, owners of the Lumia 1520 and Lumia Icon will now support Nokia Rich Recording and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 audio. There have also been improvements made to the camera’s low-light performance and support has been added for Microsoft Screen Share tech.
According to Microsoft, your Lumia smartphone will automatically alert you when the update is ready to download. There's also a handy website available that shows you which North American Lumia devices will receive the Cyan update.

Love windows phone OS have a perfectly good 810 that won't be getting 8.1. Next phone will be an iPhone at least you get 1 or 2 OS upgrades.

Have you installed the Developer Preview? It literally takes 5 minutes to sign up.

Furthermore, it is the final version of WP8.1 that you receive. Sure, you may not receive the firmware updates, but 8.1 runs perfectly fine on all of the devices I've tried the Developer Preview on.

There is rumor of 8.5 before 9 is released. Just like 7.5 before 8 was released.

If it shipped with Windows Phone 8 it will be upgraded to 8.1. MS was very clear about that, as was Nokia. Starting with WP8 all handsets are guaranteed all the updates for 18 months.

You can get 8.1 without Black or Cyan.

Black and Cyan are firmware updates, not OS updates.

I'd rather be without an update than get one that makes everything crawl rather than run, but I guess that is the way Apple users like it.

Regardless - as the other have mentioned Windows Phone 8.1 will also come to the 810.
