Microsoft envisions a grande vision for the future of Kinect
The Kinect sensor might not be all its cracked up to be on the Xbox One — hence Microsoft’s decision to add a
SKU for the console without the camera peripheral for $100 less
— but that isn’t stopping the Redmond, Washington-based company from trying again with the PC market.
Early in June, we told you that Microsoft had
opened up pre-orders to developers
, with an estimated shipping date in July. Microsoft has held true to its word, and the product page for the Kinect for Windows v2 Sensor shows that it will ship on July 15.
Developers are encouraged to build apps for the Kinect sensor that will grace the Windows Store. So that means that we should start seeing apps and games at least by early next year for Windows users.
Microsoft’s “end game” with Kinect is to provide a “future where humans and technology can interact more seamlessly—in the living room, on their PCs, and beyond.”
Microsoft’s Kinect for Windows v2 Sensor is priced at $199.

You'd be better off buying an Xbox one and selling the system sans-Kinect because of the $100 markup.

The xbox 360 & Windows versions of the original were different. Mainly firmware, but the FOV was altered as well for desktop use. I wonder if these are as well.
