New phone looks sleek and thin

A user of China's Weibo microblogging site has posted images of an unreleased Nokia Lumia Windows Phone that's likely being prepped for release by Nokia Devices' owner, Microsoft Corp. (MSFT).

It's well known that China is where most high-end Lumia devices are painstakingly assembled. Not surprisingly, it's also the source of many of the leaks we received during the wind up to device launches.

The new Lumia smartphone appears to have an aluminum frame and polycarbonate back to go along with its glass front.

Lumia 830

The smartphone also features a large, black camera circle, similar to the one found in the Lumia 1020.  Based on the fact that there is no bulge, it is unlikely, however, that this is using the same 41-megapixel camera found in that supershooter.  Still, there's room to hope that it features a slightly cut-down version of the Lumia 1020's superbly crisp, if at a times flawed optical system.

About the only additional hint we can see from the images is that the phone will feature physical buttons.

The name is a subjective of active debate. Some believe this is the upcoming Nokia device known as "Tesla", an AT&T Inc. (T) exclusive that is expected to feature some sort of more advanced form of wireless charging.  The Verge suggests that it could be named the Lumia 730, while Neowin says it will likely be called the Lumia 830.

Either way, from what we can see thus far, it's a good-looking phone.

I like the looks of it. Time will tell for the release of it and where it will be.

Not bad... But I get the feeling that pic is not quite a finished product. the edges look too boxy. Probably early prototype and will look even better in final production.

Will be interesting to see.

Speaker grill is on the bottom back of the device... not a fan of that layout. Also, I don't like the new box stylings of the 930/Icon and now 830. I like the curved design of the Lumia 900/920/925/928/1020/1520/etc. much better.

The only phone that seems to have a good speaker layout is the HTC One series. If they would make a WP variant of their current model then I would happily move off of the Nokia line... but that probably won't happen.

"The only phone that seems to have a good speaker layout is the HTC One series."

The problem with that is giant bezels. The 5 inch One M88 is almost the same size as the 5.5 inch G3. This would only benefit you if you listen to music on it, without headphones, which I imagine is useful for some, but not most people. I listen to music on my phone almost never. When I do its usually on my car via Bluetooth or using other speakers or a headset.

It's a welcome change to me. I am not a fan of the super curvy designs of smartphones in the past few years. I'd rather have something in the form factory like the current gen iPhone. Sharper boxier edges make things look more defined to me. The Icon was actually one of the first Nokia phones I had considered buying, until I found out it was Verizon only and its AT&T equivalent was not going to be available in the US.

Yeah I'm sure they'll end up painting it in one of Lumia's trademarked gay colors. Otherwise people might confuse this for an Android phone lol.

Such compliment

Most people stop thinking one colour is more homosexual than another around 14 or so.

I dont know about that. I think maybe after that age it's all about context. If I see a dude in a bright pink car, I think GAYYYYY!!!!!

Voted down because you deem something gay, as if to demean it. That correlation shows just how ignorant you are.

In reclaimer's defense, gay sex is pretty demeaning, as far as I am concerned. And if gays want to be as in our faces as they are lately, trying to force everyone to make special allowances for them, then they need to be a little thicker skinned and not get all bent out of shape any time someone uses gay to insult something completely not related to actual homosexuality.

I was justteasing reclaimer for associating bright colours with the word gay.

Everyone says I'm always angry and uptight or whatever, then I make a little lighthearted comment and get jumped on lol.

Like I was seriously making a statement of homosexuality with the "gay" colors comment? Come on people....

And yeah I know you were teasing, I was teasing too.

It's like how Louis CK can say the N word it's funny, but when Michael Richards does it's offensive. Louis was funny and poignant, Richards was stupid and hateful. You fall in the latter. Don't attempt an offensive joke, if you yourself are filled with hate (how many years have you been the vitriol of these comment sections), and lack the amount of humor required to pull it off.

We're on a technology site and somehow a bronze age human found his way to the comment section, how fun. You can take your anti-gay attitude and shove it.

"And if gays want to be as in our faces"
You're probably one of these people that can't be around a homosexual without thinking they want you. If you don't think straight sex is in our face 24/7 you've got your blinders on buddy. It's 2014, why don't you do us all a favor and join us in this new reality.

You are the one with blinders if you don't think there is a gay agenda. First if was pride day, then pride week, now pride month. Flamboyant, in your face displays of gay sex at some of the parades. Vilifying anyone who is even slightly critical on the movement as "homophobic". Desecration of churches by militant gay groups. Using the courts to force their viewpoint on everyone. NAMBLA (not just made up by South Park). The constant pushing of the many times debunked "10% of the population is gay" myth.

A leaked document showed that Chase bank recently required employees to declare if the were LGBTQ-friendly or not on a survey. Why the hell is that an employer's business? Is that grounds for dismissal if you check no?

I could care less what two dudes or two girls do together in their own bedrooms. But stop trying to make us think that we need to celebrate it along with you.

I'm guessing that's near final. Reminds me a bit of the edges on the surface tablets which were kinda sharp and boxy as well. Would be inline with Microosft's hardware recent designs.

I still like my Lumia 920 better,, and have not seen a mobile i like more, eider in looks department, or handling the telephone it self, as the rounded corners really are nice to hold on to.

I agree. I'm partial to the looks of the 920 as well.
I hope they continue with that look in the next large 6" pone (the 1520 replacement). But please, DSDA and microSD please.

This photo of the 830 definitely looks better than the previous 820 (a Little too rounded).

I had the 810 I think, the WP7.5 before moving to the 920. Although I liked most of the improvements, I did not like the screen as much. It was higher res but they went with a different LCD type and the blacks weren't great. It was very noticeable. Also the way they inlaid the screen you had that plastic rim going around it that was almost flush but not quite. To me this was a step back from the previous models where the screen was completely flush with the body. These are really just nitpicks as I really liked that phone. I bought the 1020 when my 920 was murdered by gravity (RIP buddy)It has the flush screen and the blacks are black again. It's everything the 920 is but with the gigantorrific camera. Sadly they took away wireless charging lol. Just cant win
