BlackBerry's lackluster app selection gets a boost

BlackBerry is definitely down, but it’s not out… yet. The company is clinging on to nearly nonexistent smartphone market share (below one percent) and IDC projects that the company will have zero percent market share by 2018.

BlackBerry CEO John Chen is slightly more optimistic, stating last month, “We have a lot of problems, but it’s not dead.”

Today we see that BlackBerry still has a bit of life left as it has signed up with Amazon to provide Appstore access to its BlackBerry 10 (BB10) smartphones. Appstore access to apps and games will be provided to BB10 devices later this year with the BlackBerry 10.3 system update. BlackBerry will also shutdown the music and video sections of its own  store in favor of Amazon’s offerings.

"Making the Amazon Appstore available on BlackBerry 10 devices will help BlackBerry continue to meet two essential needs: greater app availability for our smartphone users and enhanced productivity solutions for enterprises," said Chen. "We've listened to our customers and have taken this important step to deliver on their needs, while executing on our strategy."

Amazon’s Appstore provides access to over 240,000 apps and games, and would provide a huge boost to the current, sad state of BB10’s app library.

I wasn't talking about models in existence, I was talking about actual sales.
