 The supposed Nintendo DS headset
Details about the headset began floating around last month
The first image of the official Nintendo DS Headset has been publicly released on the Internet. Ever since the original Nintendo DS launched several years ago, a standard headphone port and microphone port were placed in the handheld console.
The new peripheral is a microphone and earpiece that is mono-channel only, which means it will not be ideal for stereo gaming. It is speculated that the peripheral is scheduled to be released in time to be used for the Pokemon line of video games, which allows voice chat. The headset can also be used in Metroid Prime Hunters, a game that has online voice chat capabilities.
The headset will be released in Japan on September 14 for 1,200¥ (about $10 USD). Nintendo has not yet announced a release date for North American or European gamers. The XBOX 360 also comes with a mono-channel headset that attaches to the controller for in-game communication.
"If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes, I'll give you 1,200 bucks for it." -- SCEA President Jack Tretton
