* $229 after a $50 mail-in rebate (Cricket Visa Promotion Card)

Nokia’s Lumia 1320 was announced way back in October of 2013, but it is just now reaching U.S. shores. Cricket Wireless announced this week that the smartphone would be available on its network starting tomorrow for $229 after a $50 mail-in rebate. Most importantly, that price is for a device not tied to an annual contract.
As for the Lumia 1320, its most impressive spec is its gargantuan display that measures a whopping 6 inches. However, everything else is decidedly “run of the mill” starting with the fact that the 6-inch display is only 720p. Other features include a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB of storage, microSD expansion slot, and a 5MP rear camera.

The Lumia 1320 of course runs Windows Phone 8, but will be upgradeable to Windows Phone 8.1 when it is released.
"With the Nokia Lumia 1320 we are providing big value to customers at a budget friendly price," said Andy Smoak, Cricket Wireless AVP of Product.
For those that are underwhelmed with the Lumia 1320’s specs, the Lumia 1520 also features a 6-inch display, but bumps the resolution to 1080p and a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor.

At the Galaxy Mega it looks like. Not a bad kit for the price though.

Putting gigantic phones in people's hands for very little money is kind of a cool thing I think.

Definitely. Devices like this and the Galaxy Mega negate the need for both a smartphone and a tablet for many people.

LOL yeah, notice that? I make posts like that, nobody says a thing. Especially certain someone's.

But god forbid I offer ANY criticisms. Bring out the electric chair!

At first glance I thought it was $229 on contract, because off contract is a great deal. Nice. That is a lot of phone for the price.

And in a switching of roles, time for me to be critical. I don't see the point to a screen that big if you are not going to go 1080p.

It is certainly a compromise, but for the price they are trying to hit I don't think that 1080p is really an option. If you want 1080p then pay a bit more and go for a Lumia 1520.

"pay a bit more"

In your world a bit more is $319? because that's how much extra one would have to pay for a non contract 1520.

Cost. You need millions and millions of units on a production run to bring costs down. But 6" panels for phones aren't exactly something that's made in great numbers at ANY resolution.

Yeah, I know cost is a factor. The extra size just seems pointless though. The reason I would go for a larger screen would be to fit more on it, not to make what was there bigger. I guess the market is people with poor eyesight.

Quit the contrary, that IS the whole point!

I don't know why we have to have this same conversation on here every time a large-screen phone is discussed. I guess some people just cannot cope.

I'm not saying don't go bigger, I'm saying that without the extra pixels, what is the point? How you equate this to being unable to cope is beyond me.

You're right, there's no point at all. Don't buy it and be happy...

Would you rather watch a movie on a 720p 70" TV, or a 1080p 20"? I know which one I would prefer.

If I made an OP starting with "What's the point to this phone omg bla bla", you and Mitch would have tried to roast me alive for "hating" Microsoft. It's bizzaro world.

Just...I don't need your BS on a Friday, have a good weekend.

720p would look attrocious at 70 inches, with enormous pixels, plus it wouldn't display 1080p content at native res, so, no, I would not want that option. But I was speaking about screen real estate anyway, not that your reading comprehension would allow you to realise that. More and more websites are being made with 1080p in mind, and end up needing sideways scrolling on less, unless you want to be stuck with an often less functional mobile version of the site. A larger screen and a higher res seem to go together.
