Sensor is priced at $199, will ship in July

Microsoft may have made a Kinect-less SKU of the Xbox One available earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean that the camera accessory is down for the count. In fact, Microsoft is actually looking to expand the reach of the accessory with the Kinect for Windows v2 sensor, which is currently being aimed at developers.

Microsoft says that v2 sensor offers a number of new improvements including “increased depth-sensing capabilities, full 1080p video, improved skeletal tracking, and enhanced infrared technology.”

Developers can pre-order the sensors now from the Microsoft Store for $199, and they will be shipped on July 15. The July shipment date will coincide with a public beta launch of the SDK.

“I love what the Kinect sensor and SDK can do. Getting the v2 sensor into the hands of more developers and getting the SDK more widely available is the next step,” said Steven Guggenheimer, Microsoft Corporate Vice President and Chief Evangelist.

Microsoft is hoping to get number of developers to embrace the peripheral to build apps ahead of the public launch of the Kinect for Windows v2 sensor. Unfortunately, Microsoft still hasn’t given us an idea of when the public launch will happen.
