Microsoft releases Windows drivers for the Xbox One controller

Here’s a nice Thursday treat for Xbox One users that also happen to game on desktop PCs as well (or for those that just want to purchase an Xbox One controller ONLY for PC use) — Microsoft is now making PC drivers available for the controller.

Microsoft’s Larry Hyrb (aka, Major Nelson) announced the news on his blog, stating, “We know our fans have wanted PC compatibility, and we know they wanted to be able to use the Xbox One controller with the same games and applications they have been playing with using the Xbox 360 controller.”

“We can’t wait for them to play their favorite PC games with what we consider the best controller ever made and we’re excited for fans to experience the improved D-pad, redesigned battery compartment, new comfortable design and offset analog sticks.”

Windows drivers are available to download right now in x86 and x64 form. According to Major Nelson, the controller must be connected to your PC using a microUSB cable.

There's a gillion superior controllers available for the PC. Why in the hell are you waiting for an Xbox controller? I don't get it...

And you just admitted you play Lego games :P

All it takes is a glance at Amazon to see the stupidity of your statement. There are only a few PC gamepads around that are in any way decent. Which is why the XBox 360 controller is so popular on Windows.

it's an iteroperability concern. the razer won't work on the xbox one. the xbox one controller will work on both the pc and xbox one. seems like a no brainer, imho.

Exactly.

Why buy yet another controller for the PC when you have a perfectly good one already with your xbone 4? Adding simple drivers to make it work is a lot cheaper than going out and buying a dedicated controller for your PC.

That would be redundant. It's either the Xbox One, or the XBOne.

The 360 controllers are perfect for third person games on the PC like Dark Souls 1 and 2. In fact, after beating Dark Souls 1 with it, the controller has become quite intuitive.

I won't use it, however, to play stuff like Super Street Fighter IV online. I have my Qanba Q4 for that. >:)

And for simming... well I have my modded HOTAS Cougar + hand re-wired and modded CH Pro Pedals. My HOTAS costs more than my PC. That's how crazy us PC nuts are.

The 360 Controller, though, is perfect for what it is. I own two of them for the PC, actually. A corded one and a wireless one.

I was speaking for my kids really; that said lego games are still pretty cool.

Lego City Undercover is actually one of the best games released on any platform recently. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying the Lego games, unless you are so insecure that you need to just play shooters to reaffirm your toughness.
