Samsung, Barnes & Noble Collaborate on Galaxy Tab 4 Nook Tablet

Barnes & Noble now has a rebranded Galaxy Tab 4 in its arsenal
Microsoft may have secured a
$1 billion interest in Nook Media LLC last year
, but it is Samsung that is partnering with Barnes & Noble for a new Nook-centric tablet. Samsung Electronics and Barnes & Noble, Inc. today announced the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook.
This largely looks to be a branding exercise as what we essentially have here is a
7” Galaxy Tab 4 tablet
, which includes a 1280x800 display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, microSD slot, 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, and Android 4.4 KitKat. The only big change appears to be that the tablet comes preloaded with Nook software, and will be made available in Barnes & Noble stores and via its website.
Barnes & Noble also noted that the partnership with Samsung would enable the company to “reduce its exposure to the substantial cost structure and other financial commitments that accompany ownership of the hardware production aspects of the NOOK tablet business.” That makes sense considering that Barnes & Noble
announced in June of 2013
that it planned to leave tablet design and manufacturing to third-party companies.
The standard Galaxy Tab 4 tablet sells for $199, yet Barnes & Noble has given us no indication about pricing for the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook, but it will be released in August.
Somehow we doubt that Amazon will be losing any sleep over this latest partnership, as its
line of Kindle Fire tablets
are part of the reason why Barnes & Noble’s tablet business crumbled.

"Asus is a brand name now. They spun off their design and manufacturing to Pegatron"
That's right... I remember that now that you mentioned it. There are fewer and fewer all the time.
