Master Chief will return next year for an all-new installment

The latest reports show that Sony’s PlayStation 4 is still outselling Microsoft’s Xbox One. According to NPD analyst Liam Callahan, the PS4 remained the top hardware platform in April, making its winning streak four months in a row.

However, Microsoft has some fresh ammunition to help turn the tides in its favor. Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that it will offer a $399 SKU of the Xbox One that doesn’t include the Kinect camera — this puts the console at pricing parity with the PS4.

And today, Microsoft and 343 Industries announced that the next installment in the “Halo” gaming series, “Halo 5: Guardians,” will come to the Xbox One in Fall 2015. According to Microsoft, “Halo 5” will obviously be a more significant undertaking the “Halo 4” and will fully leverage the hardware capabilities of the Xbox One:

That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what’s now a brand new and more powerful engine.  Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we’ve invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen.

In addition to “Halo 5”, Microsoft also announced that the new “Halo” television series would also arrive in Fall 2015. The television series is being developed in conjunction with Steven Spielberg, so we have high hopes for the prospects of this venture.

Microsoft will give more details on “all things Halo” at its Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing on June 9.

You said "better firmware". What you SHOULD have said was "better looking".

quote:
"Focused more on gaming" means making more games than usual.

Uhh no. Sony delivered a console that, at the time of release, was ~50% more graphically powerful than the Xbox AND a full $100 less. THAT is focused on gaming. Microsoft's approach was like "Hey, we have the Kinect and uhhh, HDMI pass through!" Whooptie-goddamn-dooo.

quote:
Also I myself went through three 360's, each of which was covered by the warranty that MS themselves extended. In the end, since it was covered, I was fine with the result.

This just shows you're a fanboy, plain and simple.

I'm sorry but the average person? Yeah you've LOST them after one failure. Let alone three!

"Our price is lower. We're focused on gaming." Are you daft? What you're trying to say is "focused on graphics." "Focused on gaming" means contributing to the state of the art of video games, either by quality or by quantity.

You only have to make the box one time. That does nothing to focus on gaming. Making a box is the price of admission. You need a box to play the games. A 'focus on gaming' comes after that. And BTW, I haven't seen it yet.

The average person played the hell out of the 360. It's an extremely popular platform.

And the fact that I bought more PS3 games than 360 games renders your argument pitifully invalid.

Yes: better-looking firmware.

UI is an integral component of console firmware so your argument is immediately invalid. Not to mention the fact that other components of Xbox's firmware are more advanced as well. Basically you're either being irrationally argumentative, or you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Either way, I'm a fool for discussing this with you.

so, are you saying Sony will not upgrade their Firmware to add more features (or remove others) like they did with the PS3 many times?

Also I think you guys are confusing the "Firmware" with the entire Software set of the consoles.

And sorry to say, but the "I bought them once.. therefore I'm not fanboy" is a fallacy used many times.

the Xbox One is getting outgunned badly because the fans felt betrayed at the awful reveal, awful price and awful offerings. (not to mention the lower specs/price differences vs competition).

Microsoft needs to go stronger to turn the tide.

I'm saying they haven't yet. I'm also saying they won't do it as well as Microsoft, or to the same extent. I pray that I'm wrong.

I'm not. Consoles are appliances, and they run firmware -- these days, with hypervisors.

Sounds like you're loosening the definition of 'fanboy.' I've bought 3 generations of PlayStation and 2 of Xbox. It doesn't make me a fanboy to say that I've had every PlayStation and Xbox before the current gen and find that MS does better firmware, it makes me more like an expert witness lol.

Also what I said was I bought more games for the PS3 than for the 360. What the hell kind of Xbox fanboy is that??
