Despite being a budget model, HTC One mini 2 packs a better front-facing "selfie" camera than the Galaxy S5

Following the leak of renders of the handset earlier this month, HTC Corp. (TPE:2498) this morning officially announced the update to the HTC One mini.  Dubbed the HTC One mini 2 (for some reason HTC lowercases the "mini" bit), the new smartphone drops the 3D camera and packs a lower resolution HD (1280x720 pixels) found in its larger kin, the HTC One M8 (2014).  The dual-LED flash is also dropped.

One feature that is retained from the higher resolution 5 megapixel HD front shooter.  HTC intends to "dominate the selfie market", which it claims accounts for 90 percent of mobile photos in some regions.

It seems questionable that customers would rather have the high-resolution selfies than retaining the slick 3D rear camera for bokeh adjustments or 3D visualization.  But that's the gamble HTC is making.

To be fair it is pretty impressive to see a 5 MP front-facing camera on this budget model as some premium, flagship phones such as the Samsung Electronics Comp., Ltd. (KRX:005930) (KRX:005935) Galaxy S5 only has a 2.1 megapixel front-facing camera.

The phone also features a "tightened" 4.5-inch display and Sense 6.

The launch schedule is:
  • Europe, the Middle East and Africa: June 2014
  • Asia: June 2014
  • North America: ?? (no launch plans announced)
HTC CEO Peter Chou states:

The latest member of the award-winning HTC One family distills the advanced features that have earned it global acclaim, into an elegant, compact handset.  Its size and tapered edges fit perfectly in a hand, pocket or purse, making it look great and feel even better to use. It’s the perfect choice for those who love the iconic design of the HTC One (M8) yet want something more compact.

Much like the Apple, Inc. (AAPL) iPhone, the phone will be offered in darker metal, silver, and gold -- or "Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver, and Amber Gold".

A price point has not yet been officially announced for these regions, but is expected to be in the mid-range/budget end.

What kind of a nutcase would even say that over the size of phones that OEM's are making? Seriously what is wrong with you?

Your position all along: go buy a 5"+ phone and suck it up.

You spin that position as: go buy whatever phone you want.

Meanwhile, your recent posts on these topics: go buy a 5"+ phone and suck it up.

Now you turn around and claim all of that never happened. LOL, really.
imaginary scenario you make up in your head - that never happened

Keep telling yourself that and you'll believe it eventually.
no-one was pushing anything

Oh man, you're just like Keith Alexander, lying with your eyes wide open.
We simply were telling you to stop complaining about large phones.

Nope, more than that. You're telling me to not only stop complaining about large phones, but also to go out and buy them even when they don't suit my needs.
There are plenty smaller ones available

I said "small Android flagship phones under 5 inches". There are none. The m8 mini is not a flagship, it's a bastardized, cut-down version marketed as such. You are wrong, sir.
You were called a luddite because you cant grasp the point of the conversation you are involved in

You called me a luddite because you cannot stand the fact that I don't want to buy the large phones that you keep raving about. Too easy.
YOU are the one attacking Apple, and other OEM's for going large when you can still buy a small phone.

Congrats for putting your words in my mouth, sir. Sorry, that's not what I said.
You didn't get it the first dozen times it was were carefully explained

Not only did you not explain it, your explanations are as clear as mud.

"Go buy your small phones, dude!" Hah, funny, considering your position all along has been "go buy a 5"+ phone and suck it up", while pretending you're somehow less fanboyish and biased than others.
Are really being serious here, or are you just trying to act this way on purpose to pis people off?

Your position is I'm not allowed to have my opinions about wanting a small flagship phone here, because they conflict with your position that large phones are better than small ones and we should all buy large phones. Besides your refusal to back down on that stance while claiming to be impartial.

How about "no"? Nope, you can't take that as an answer either.

If you think I'm here to post like that retard Reclaimer77, you are sorely mistaken.

You are absolutely insane. How you could get those meaning above from what I said is beyond my comprehension... But please if you think you can find it, quote me and show the links you lying sack. Hey, there is no edit button here at this site, so you shouldn't have a problem if I said any of that eh? No, things were said exactly as I outlined above and you took absolutely insane meanings from them, but pelase, show me where I said any of it. Any at all.
