Despite being a budget model, HTC One mini 2 packs a better front-facing "selfie" camera than the Galaxy S5

Following the leak of renders of the handset earlier this month, HTC Corp. (TPE:2498) this morning officially announced the update to the HTC One mini.  Dubbed the HTC One mini 2 (for some reason HTC lowercases the "mini" bit), the new smartphone drops the 3D camera and packs a lower resolution HD (1280x720 pixels) found in its larger kin, the HTC One M8 (2014).  The dual-LED flash is also dropped.

One feature that is retained from the higher resolution 5 megapixel HD front shooter.  HTC intends to "dominate the selfie market", which it claims accounts for 90 percent of mobile photos in some regions.

It seems questionable that customers would rather have the high-resolution selfies than retaining the slick 3D rear camera for bokeh adjustments or 3D visualization.  But that's the gamble HTC is making.

To be fair it is pretty impressive to see a 5 MP front-facing camera on this budget model as some premium, flagship phones such as the Samsung Electronics Comp., Ltd. (KRX:005930) (KRX:005935) Galaxy S5 only has a 2.1 megapixel front-facing camera.

The phone also features a "tightened" 4.5-inch display and Sense 6.

The launch schedule is:
  • Europe, the Middle East and Africa: June 2014
  • Asia: June 2014
  • North America: ?? (no launch plans announced)
HTC CEO Peter Chou states:

The latest member of the award-winning HTC One family distills the advanced features that have earned it global acclaim, into an elegant, compact handset.  Its size and tapered edges fit perfectly in a hand, pocket or purse, making it look great and feel even better to use. It’s the perfect choice for those who love the iconic design of the HTC One (M8) yet want something more compact.

Much like the Apple, Inc. (AAPL) iPhone, the phone will be offered in darker metal, silver, and gold -- or "Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver, and Amber Gold".

A price point has not yet been officially announced for these regions, but is expected to be in the mid-range/budget end.

Oh really, retrospooty? Want to make this a war?
quote:
This applies to you too... " the king of misunderstanding context, then twisting words and meanings and immediately arguing things that aren't the point and arguing against things that no-one even said."

I cant even count the times you have gone off the rail, arguing about things noone ever said or meant. Twisting words like a schitzo... No matter how many times and ways its explained to you.

Arguments with you and other people arent even between you and the other party, they are with you and the imaginary scenarios you make up in your head. Enjoy your psychosis.

You didn't explain a damn thing, just regurgitating the same thoughtless, illegible diatribe of yesteryear.

You two like it when I was out bashing pro-Apple folks. Only to turn around and call me a traitor when I started bashing Android. You accused me of "twisting words like a schitzo" when you're doing the exact same things as I did. Oh joy, how predictable.

You claim how we should buy the phones we want, when your ulterior motive is really one of "go buy a 5"+ phone and suck it up" regardless of the user's actual needs. When others voice arguments to the contrary, you immediately brand them luddites and idiots. You claim that my positions "have gone off the rail", while conveniently ignoring how your arguments of late are a train wreck of epic proportions.

I don't think you know what you think your words mean. Enjoy your intellectual straitjacket.

"Want to make this a war?"

A War? What kind of a nutcase would even say that over the size of phones that OEM's are making? Seriously what is wrong with you?

Thanks for proving my point though. Like i said... Arguing about things noone ever said or meant. Twisting words like a schitzo... No matter how many times and ways its explained to you.Arguments with you and other people aren't even between you and the other party, they are with you and the imaginary scenarios you make up in your head.

Lets take a look here at your latest nutty rant, just for fun. :P

"You two like it when I was out bashing pro-Apple folks. Only to turn around and call me a traitor when I started bashing Android"

- imaginary scenario you make up in your head - that never happened. Seriously... It never happened. That isn't at all what what said - ever.

"You claim how we should buy the phones we want, when your ulterior motive is really one of "go buy a 5"+ phone and suck it up" regardless of the user's actual needs."

- imaginary scenario you make up in your head - that never happened. Again, for the umpteenth time, no-one was pushing anything. We simply were telling you to stop complaining about large phones. There are plenty smaller ones available, so buy what you want. If next year someone buys an iPhone6 at 5.5 inches or a Note5 at 6.5 inches, it doesn't change your phone or your experience at all. Buy what you want and enjoy what you bought. SIMPLE! Why do you keep complaining about the size of phones that other people want? Deal with it man, be an adult.

"When others voice arguments to the contrary, you immediately brand them luddites and idiots."

- imaginary scenario you make up in your head - that never happened. You were called a luddite because you cant grasp the point of the conversation you are involved in or the fact that other people large phones don't affect your phone at all. It's theirs and your is yours. YOU are the one attacking Apple, and other OEM's for going large when you can still buy a small phone. WTF is so hard to grasp.

Read this part really slow so you can hopefully grasp it... AGAIN THIS NOT AN ARGUMENT ON SMALL VS LARGE PHONES. THIS IS AN ARGUMENT ABOUT YOU NOT ACCEPTING APPLE, AND OTHER OEM'S AND OTHER PEOPLE WHO WANT LARGE PHONES AND YOU ARE GETTING PO'D ABOUT IT. Get it ? Of course not. You didn't get it the first dozen times it was were carefully explained , why would you get it now...

OK, I have to ask. Are really being serious here, or are you just trying to act this way on purpose to pis people off? IF so its not working, I think you are hilarious and am enjoying you getting all bent. I just find it hard to believe that anyone could be so thick headed and take a the complete wrong meaning in every single post. I just cant see how it is possible, yet you keep doing it.

Your position all along: go buy a 5"+ phone and suck it up.

You spin that position as: go buy whatever phone you want.

Meanwhile, your recent posts on these topics: go buy a 5"+ phone and suck it up.

Now you turn around and claim all of that never happened. LOL, really.
quote:
imaginary scenario you make up in your head - that never happened

Keep telling yourself that and you'll believe it eventually.
quote:
no-one was pushing anything

Oh man, you're just like Keith Alexander, lying with your eyes wide open.
quote:
We simply were telling you to stop complaining about large phones.

Nope, more than that. You're telling me to not only stop complaining about large phones, but also to go out and buy them even when they don't suit my needs.
quote:
There are plenty smaller ones available

I said "small Android flagship phones under 5 inches". There are none. The m8 mini is not a flagship, it's a bastardized, cut-down version marketed as such. You are wrong, sir.
quote:
You were called a luddite because you cant grasp the point of the conversation you are involved in

You called me a luddite because you cannot stand the fact that I don't want to buy the large phones that you keep raving about. Too easy.
quote:
YOU are the one attacking Apple, and other OEM's for going large when you can still buy a small phone.

Congrats for putting your words in my mouth, sir. Sorry, that's not what I said.
quote:
You didn't get it the first dozen times it was were carefully explained

Not only did you not explain it, your explanations are as clear as mud.

"Go buy your small phones, dude!" Hah, funny, considering your position all along has been "go buy a 5"+ phone and suck it up", while pretending you're somehow less fanboyish and biased than others.
quote:
Are really being serious here, or are you just trying to act this way on purpose to pis people off?

Your position is I'm not allowed to have my opinions about wanting a small flagship phone here, because they conflict with your position that large phones are better than small ones and we should all buy large phones. Besides your refusal to back down on that stance while claiming to be impartial.

How about "no"? Nope, you can't take that as an answer either.

If you think I'm here to post like that retard Reclaimer77, you are sorely mistaken.

You are absolutely insane. How you could get those meaning above from what I said is beyond my comprehension... But please if you think you can find it, quote me and show the links you lying sack. Hey, there is no edit button here at this site, so you shouldn't have a problem if I said any of that eh? No, things were said exactly as I outlined above and you took absolutely insane meanings from them, but pelase, show me where I said any of it. Any at all.

LOL.
