Apple to reportedly finally get with the program when it comes to heavy multitasking
iPad was first announced
, many in the tech industry mocked it. Some jokingly referring to it as a "Maxipad," others decried that it was simply a supersized iPod touch, and many saw the iPad as simply a "consumption" device. Over the past four years, the iPad has gone on to be a huge success for Apple, but there have still been lingering questions about the usefulness of the device for people that actually want to do “real work.”
Both Microsoft and Samsung have attacked the iPads lack of split-screen multitasking (i.e. using two apps side by side) in their TV advertising:
Microsoft touts its multitasking capabilities on its Surface tablets
Samsung also kicked dirt in the iPad Air’s face with its recent Galaxy Pro Series commercials
is reporting that Apple may finally be adding split-screen multitasking to its iPad family in iOS 8. As with competing tablets, this new functionality would allow iPads users to use two apps at once, side by side.

For example, a user may be able to drag content, such as text, video, or images, from one app to another. Apple is said to be developing capabilities for developers to be able to design their apps to interact with each other. This functionality may mean that Apple is finally ready to enable “XPC” support in iOS (or improved inter-app communication), which means that developers could design App Store apps that could share content.
9.7” iPad Air
has plenty of screen real estate to make split-screen multitasking viable. Split-screen multitasking on
iPad mini with Retina Display
with its smaller 7.9” screen might be a tad bit harder to pull off in the real world, but it’s not impossible.
We’ll hear more about iOS 8 at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 14) when it kicks off on June 2.

All these haters make it sound as if MS or Samsung's solutions have been ANY good... They've been mediocre at best. Samsung's a buggy unoptimized mess, and both are guilty of compatibility and limitation issues. I have no doubts Apple could easily leap frog their bad attempts, though mostly because of the ecosystem, iOS developers are quick to follow Apple's lead and update their apps accordingly.

android has its stupid issues too...cant even control volume from a headset.
people used to bash apple for lack of copy and paste...but as soon as they add the feature, its "stop copying everyone".
no one can win, and now phone updates are stale and lackluster. good job, consumers and zealots.

"android has its stupid issues too...cant even control volume from a headset."
Plenty of people are able to do it. I have a BT headset that does. Here's a corded one.

in what way has microsoft's solution been bad? What compatibility or limitation issues are you referring to? I've not had anything that I couldn't run side by side with no problem on my DV8 pro, I can't speak for the samsung issues, but I think MS has it pretty well figured out.
