D-Link's Smart Plug is priced at $49.99

For those that like to keep close tabs on energy usage or even have the ability to power on/off a device from anywhere, D-Link has just introduced a new solution to service your needs.

The Wi-Fi Smart Plug (DSP-W215) plugs into a single wall outlet and gives your control over one powered device. Using the mydlink app — which works on iOS or Android devices (sorry, Windows Phone users) — energy-conscious individuals can set schedules to turn on/off any electronics device or appliance, and even monitor energy usage remotely.

The Wi-Fi Smart Plug includes Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) to make setup easy and also offers overheat protection just in case any of your devices get a little hot under the collar.

The Wi-Fi Smart Plug is available starting today for $49.99.

Of course, D-Link is not the first company to introduce such a device for consumers. Belkin’s WeMo Switch (F7C027fc) – also priced at $49.99 -- offers similar functionality and also comes with a companion app that works on iOS and Android devices.
