Amazon and HBO team up for a multi-year content agreement that will make HBO content available to Amazon Prime members.

Amazon Prime Instant Video members will have access to HBO content, after the two companies signed a multi-year licensing agreement.  The first wave of HBO shows and mini-series will be available starting on May 21, and content will continually be introduced in the coming years.

The licensing deal includes access to “The Sopranos,” “The Wire,” “Six Feet Under,” “Big Love,” “Deadwood,” “Family Tree,” “Enlightened,” “Eastbound & Down,” “True Blood,” and “Treme” will be available – and previous series of HBO shows will roll out as the multi-year agreement progresses.

“As owners of our original programming, we have always sought to capitalize on that investment,” said Gleen Whitehead, HBO Executive VP of Business and Legal Affairs, in a press statement.  “Given our longstanding relationship with Amazon, we couldn’t think of a better partner to entrust with this valuable collection.  We’re also excited to bring HBO GO to Amazon’s Fire TV.  The features like unified voice search will provide a compelling experience for HBO customers.”

Shows such as “Sex and the City,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Entourage” won’t be available due to custom TV syndication deals, however.

Along with HBO content, the Amazon Fire TV will have access to HBO GO by the end of the year, according to both companies.

As more companies try to appease consumers watching online and streaming content, custom partnerships are likely to be commonplace.

Reasonable Monthly fee HBOGO independent of a cable subscription.

yes, it is, but you can't get HBO Go without a cable sub that includes paying $16.99 for the HBO set. I'd gladly pay $25/month for HBO Go, or even $5/episode of GoT, but they don't even have that available. You have to pay $120/month for cable plus $17 for HBO for one good show. (I'd even watch True Blood, but not because it's a good show.)

Looks like it will be on Fire TV by the end of the year so maybe you won't need that subscription anymore.
