Apple has submitted
a filing with the FCC
for the Bluetooth version of its single-button right-clickable mouse, the Mighty Mouse. The new mouse will be exactly the same as the current Mighty Mouse except for its wireless feature. The mouse comes with a single button that does both left-click and right-click duties. One omni-directional pointing ball in the middle allows you to scroll in any direction.
The new Mighty Mouse uses two standard AA batteries and will be compatible with OS X 10.4.6 and later. Some users reported that the Mighty Mouse had some issues with right clicking, and often times the single fat button would click both sides of the mouse. It is unclear whether or not this has been addressed.
No release date is set for the new Bluetooth Mighty Mouse -- currently codenamed
, but judging from the FCC filing, the new mouse is expected to be announced during Apple's WWDC conference during August 7th to 11th. Apple is also expected to make an announcement about its upcoming pro-level desktops -- speculated to be called the Mac Pro -- as well as server platforms
based on Intel's
Xeon processors during WWDC

marvel of technology? please tell us how a two-button mouse is a marvel. Seriously, I'd like to know exactly what is so revolution about such a mouse. "Look, you can left click here. Then, ZOMG! you can right click too!!!"

I think the marvel is the scroll ball which, as far as I am aware, was unique at the time and, for all I know, still is. Using a scroll wheel to scroll up/down and pan left/right is one thing but being able to move in full 360 degree directions is another. Not much of an innovation for browsing the web, writing documents or playing games, but is pretty fab for image editing.
I really wanted to like the Mighty Mouse, especially for the scroll ball. Unfortunately, I didn't like the size of the scroll ball (too small), the scroll ball click function (bad feel) and the squeeze buttons on the side were not a suitable replacement for "traditional" back/forwards buttons found on a lot of mice.
I think the Mighty Mouse shows promise but it does need some aspects of the design to be addressed. However, I can't say that I had any problems left/right clicking when I tested it and it really isn't as bad as a lot of people make out. I like that the mouse doesn't work like other mice since it's nice to see someone trying to be different in what is already a pretty crowded market. Unfortunately, different does not necessarily mean better and while some of the ideas show promise, a re-design is necessary to address some of the problems that I see before I'll actually buy one.

Could you please explain how this is a two button mouse. I don't like this mouse but at least I've tried it and visited apples site. It has more than two buttons, you can squeeze it, roll it and scroll left/right/up/down.
