Shazam integration expected with iOS 8

A report has surfaced that Apple is set to add a new song discovery feature in a future update for iOS. Sources that claim to be familiar with Apple's plans say that Shazam will power the song-discovery feature.
The microphone of an iPhone or iPad would be used to capture audio of the song and then the audio would be compared to the song database of the program.
Song discovery would be baked directly into iOS and will be available through Siri. The user being able to hit the Home button and ask what song is playing.
Another report indicates that Apple is looking at making iTunes Radio a standalone app rather than a feature inside the iTunes store. However, the source says that the final decision on that move hasn't been made.
Shazam currently has over 420 million users worldwide that use its services.

Windows Phone has had this pretty much since the beginning.

The beginning meaning a week or two ago when the MS voice assistant was released for 8.1?

<shakes head at the MS desperation>

Uh no, the Bing search page has had a musical note button that was used for doing a song search since the release of WP8 at least, if not going back to WP7.5.

But thanks for not knowing what you're talking about and making things up.

??? Isnt this specifically about having it in the platforms voice assistant integration, not a button? So Siri, Google now and Cortana.

No, the article is about music search by audio input. Siri support is just an extra, one that isn't that important. It's honestly just a slower way to get at the feature.

Windows Phone has had music search like this, that works quite well, since version 7.5.

Through the Bing search page, yeah. We're talking baked-in features in the OS, through the personal assistant. Anyone can use an app to search music, that's not what we're talking about.

Google stands alone in that department and always has.

If you actually pick up a Win phone you will see a search button on the front of it. Hit it and then hit the musical note. The device will listen to the music and identify the music being played. You will be presented with an option to go the store to download it. Doesn't get more "baked-in" than that as far as I'm concerned.

Nope, not good enough.

Technically, Reclaimer77 is right - WP8 (or 7) did not have voice assistant, thus it could not have music recognition integrated with it.

It did, however, have music recognition baked in OS. There was no need to download additional app, and response was almost immediate because of no need to run client-side app.

I haven't tried Google Now feature, but I did prefer WP solution to Shazam on my old iPhone. Or my wife's new iPhone.

"Report: Apple Plans to Integrate Shazam Song Finding Functionality into Siri"

But thanks for confirming you are unable to comprehend!

You are correct; Apple plans to incorporate music search into its personal assistant in iOS8.

Windows 8.1 (which will likely be released before iOS8, and is already available to preview) already announced incorporating music search into its personal assistant, and has already had music search functionality for some time built into their OS.

iOS currently does not support music search, and just announced playing catch-up to MS.

Thank you.

That was my point - I don't care if it's part of Siri, or Google Now, or Cortana, or HAL - I'm commenting on the existence of the functionality as part of the OS at all.

So MS "plans" to integrate some type of music search into it's voice assistant.

So you are actually accusing Apple of playing catch up to a press release. So far that is all that has come from MS is "plans".

And, to reference back to my original post, the "beginning" reference by the OP would be when 8.1 is released and IF it actually has a music search built into the voice assistant?

Music search is old hat. The article was about it being integrated into a voice assistant (Siri). Since 8.1 hasn't been released yet then MS hasn't had (past tense) it from the beginning.

Personally I don't give a rats ass about siri or 8.1. I do dislike the FUD the OP was trying to spread.

This article is only about Apple's "plans". IOS8 has also not been released. This feature is available right now for anyone to download in the Windows Phone 8.1 developer preview (within Cortana). MS announced and implemented first. Just clearing things up.

No it hasn't.

Yes, it has. At least since windows phone 7.5 it has had it integrated into the core os. You just hit the search button and then hit the listen button. Now, if you're talking about if it has had it with a digital assistant, then no, but that honestly makes no difference. And technically, you could call Microsoft tell me a type of digital assistant, just a much weaker one than siri or google now (it could take notes, text and call people, open apps, things like that, but there was no 'chit chat' or too much intelligence behind it)
