Satellite P55t notebook will start at under $1500

Toshiba has announced a new 15.6” notebook that supports 4K resolution (3840 x 2160). Satellite P55t’s display has 282 pixels per inch (PPI) and of course uses IPS technology for wide viewing angles.
Toshiba also claims that the Satellite P55t features the world’s first Technicolor Color Certified laptop display. “Our color certification team worked closely with the engineering team at Toshiba to ensure the highest levels of color calibration on this laptop’s display,” said Manuele Wahl, senior vice president, Licensing at Technicolor.

“We applied the same rigor of testing and calibration used on major motion pictures to ensure not only that photographers and videographers now see what they shot in perfect color, but consumers can also experience 4K film and videos as Hollywood directors intended.”
The notebook also uses a 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor, can be fitted with up to 16GB of RAM and incorporates AMD Radeon R9 M256X graphics. Up to 1TB of storage space can be configured. Other features include four USB 3.0 ports, a memory card reader, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, an available Blu-ray burner drive, integrated Harmon Kardon speakers, and an LED backlit keyboard.
Toshiba will ship the P55t notebook on April 22 starting at $1499.99.

Yeah, but it will be great for editing photographs. Pretty cheap laptop for high resolution photo editing gives it a definite edge if graphic design is your thing. I don't know why it's taken so long for mobile phone screen quality to be used on laptops and monitors.

As far as external storage is concerned, I don't see it as a big problem. I use Netflix for my TV. If I wanted something better than that I'd probably consider central storage on a wifi network.

Engadget reports the 1 TB HDD is only 5400 rpm. Yeech.

For $1500, it should come with SSD.

Except that you can't calibrate a laptop screen properly, because they all lack RGB controls. It's not going to be unusable, far from that, but it's definitely not going to please pros.
