A Windows Phone screen will project its content onto the infotainment display
Microsoft is looking to put the Windows Phone 8 operating system on built-in car displays via technology that simply connects the two.
, Microsoft showed off a new concept called Windows in the car, which allows Windows devices to mirror content on its screen into a touch-friendly car interface (such as an infotainment system).
Microsoft's Steve Teixeira took the stage at the Build 2014 conference to show off the new tech, which uses the connectivity standard Mirrorlink to project a Windows Phone's screen onto the infotainment system's display.

Mirrorlink is used by Nokia's Symbian phones and Sony's Xperia Z smartphone, but the tech is making its way into cars as automakers like Volkswagen, Honda, Toyota, and Citroen started testing it.
The actual interface looks like Windows 8 with live tiles, swiping gestures and places for apps, radio and navigation.
It's not clear when this will be available, as it's just a concept for now. Also, there's no word on whether any automakers have signed on for the Mirrorlink and Microsoft combo in their infotainment systems.
Just last month, Apple announced a similar initiative that brings iOS to a car's infotainment system called
. It brings iPhone functionality to your automobile's dashboard, but it is not meant to be an all-or-nothing replacement operating system for what comes pre-installed on your automobile. Rather, it’s an easy-to-use interface that allows you to use your Apple gadget in the car.
Like the iOS version, Microsoft's Windows in the car will likely also offer a user access to their music, email, texts, calendar and contacts information via voice commands (Apple's uses Siri of course, and it's possible we could see Cortana in Microsoft's finished product).

Try reading the article. This is about an open standard, which would mirror your current phone to the car's screen. If Google and Apple play ball, then it shouldn't matter what your preferred platform is, it would work.
