Google Voice tipped to end in the next few months

It seems as though just yesterday Google and smartphone users were lobbying for Apple to allow Google Voice into the App Store – what a difference a few years makes.

A report is now circulating that Google is preparing to kill off Google Voice and integrate similar capabilities into the G+ Hangouts app.

Google has been working hard to get more people to use Hangouts, so eliminating Google Voice would be no real surprise. The voice service will be integrated into both the iOS and Android apps allowing the users to make voice calls as they would with the web version of the software.

Users will still be able to keep their current Google Voice their own numbers, although we aren’t yet sure if all the intricate features and capabilities of the service will make the cut.

9to5Google reckons that Google could make an official announcement at this year’s Google I/O conference.

Default Android App

Hangouts is the default text app on Android phones now so integrating this is pretty obvious but, if you notice they've now managed to get VOIP software on all recent Android phones right under the operator's noses.

Frankly, it's a simply matter of time before everything uses IP technology, voice, text, TV, all the telecommunications services are going to be over IP. Just watch to see how they decide to screw us so they can charge just as much for delivering one service as they currently do for four.

It's only default on Nexus devices and it's still not VoIP. Also, text integration is still not like iMessage, BBM, and Windows Live Messenger on their respective platforms. The option that sounds like it does this actually configures forwarding that I get billed for without the usual warnings the website would give when setting it up. I have to root and use xVoice+ on my Android device to properly integrate my GV number with my text messages in Google Hangouts and even now SMS GV Extensions integrated it better in iOS (suffix for differentiating incoming messages). Granted, the GV app integrates in the Android dialer almost seamlessly (all calls appear to be from my GV number and the call history shows my contacts and not GV access numbers), but I want full integration of texts, calls, missed calls, and voicemail.

The voip works on ios

Btw it works on the computer. I just answered a voice call via hangouts. It's only a matter of time before they add it to hangouts on android.

Am I the only person who doesn't like Hangouts?
