Spec is modest, comparable to GS4

Many fans of Samsung Electronics Comp., Ltd. (KRX:005930) (KRX:005935) were stoked when the rumor mill buzzed earlier this year with claims of a metal-body Galaxy S5.  Alas, that was not in the cards.  The Galaxy S5 did bring a new pitted plastic, but metal accouterments were nowhere to be seen.

Now top leaks Twitter feed @EVLeaks has published an image of what appears to be a Samsung Windows Phone, with Verizon Wireless brandings and -- most notably -- a brushed metal body.

The leaker last month published a picture of the front face:
Which was followed by the just-published intriguing shot of the backside.
The rumored spec for the device is:
  • Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) Snapdragon 800 quad-core
  • 5-inch 1080p screen (others suggested it had 4.3 inch 720p screen, but this was debunked)

    Samsung ATIV SE

  • Adreno 305 GPU
  • 13 MP rear camera
  • 2 GB of DRAM
  • BlueTooth 3.0
  • NFC
  • Dual-band WiFi
  • LTE + CDMA + GSM + HSPA
  • Physical front-face home button
The Ativ SE appears to be similar in terms of hardware to the Galaxy S4.  That would mark a significant upgrade over Samsung's last Windows Phone effort -- the dual-core, 720p Ativ S.  The Ativ S was effectively a reimagined Galaxy S3 in Windows Phone form, and also differentiated itself -- in part -- with a brushed aluminum body.  The followup budget model, the Windows Phone 8 Samsung Odyssey, lacked a metal chassis.

The device is expected to retail for around $500-550 USD unlocked, according to a leaked Indian cargo manifest.  On contract, you can expect to pay around $100 USD for the mid-range Windows Phone handset.

The Samsung Ativ SE is also known as the "Huron" phone, or the SM-750V.

Hard to tell what is right... It also say Snapdragon 800 (good) with Adreno 305 (bad) which is not a combo that even exists as far as I have seen. The 800 comes with Adreno 330, which is blazing fast.

Anyhow, it actually looks pretty nice. I am surprised.

How can we tell this is actual metal vs. Samsung's penchant for brushed metal facades on plastic?

We wait and hope it's not the latter. :P

On a side note, the Odyssey was total crap. The comparably-priced Nokias were much better. I'm assuming the Adreno 305 is a mistake. Time will tell if this new Ativ compares to the Nokia Icon... it looks a lot closer this time around, but I'd bet the Icon edges it out - especially in camera capabilities.

Now, if we assume that these specs are actually correct and the Ativ really does have an Adreno 305, then it's no contest - the Icon's Adreno 330 will blow it out of the water.

It does look like plastic to me.

Ya, based on the mixed bag of specs that doent exist, I am going to say that whoever put this rumor together is either FOS or just ignorant. Either way, nothing is set until officially announced.
