The fourth generation iPad returns to lineup at Apple
first introduced the iPad 2 just over three years ago
, which makes it quite ancient in today’s fast-paced tech world. However, Apple has continued to sell the device as one of its entry-level tablets with a price tag of $399.
Today, Apple is finally kicking the iPad 2 (with its non-Retina display and older 30-pin dock connector) to the curb in favor of the
fourth generation iPad with Retina Display
. The $399 price and 16GB capacity remain, but you get a faster A6X processor (instead of the older A5), Retina display (obviously) and the Lightning Dock connector.
“Now for $399 customers can get iPad with a stunning 9.7-inch Retina display, fast A6X chip, and 5MP iSight camera, offering a dramatic upgrade in power, performance and value compared to the iPad 2 it replaces,” said Apple's Philip Schiller. “The iPad line sets the gold-standard in mobile computing and all iPads have access to the largest and best ecosystem of more than 500,000 iPad optimized apps from the App Store.”
If users prefer to have a cellular connection, you can also opt to add LTE connectivity for an additional $130.
Both the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+LTE models are currently available from the

How does it sound like the problem is a lack of free upgrades? I never said that, and obviously I am still getting free software updates. What I did say is that I see a problem with them releasing a product that they clearly were not pleased with, but of course pretending that it was part of their normal product refresh cycle. Then it was replaced eight months later with something that DID work well, and which was on the market for well over a year before it was replaced. You don't see a problem with that? I wouldn't be so annoyed if I hadn't bought an LTE 32 GB model. I spent money that I could have spent on a computer that would be much more future proof. Instead I bought a dead end. It wasn't a waste of money, but you must admit it was deceptive on Apple's part.

It was not deceptive in the slightest, your 3 hasn't stopped working. They make 64GB and 128GB models as well, so you could have paid a lot more. I'd be willing to bet that for what you use it for 99% it behaves the same as a 4 anyway, so what's the point in getting so riled up? I've no idea where you get that the 3 "doesn't work well", or has some massive flaw! From what I can see, the iPad 3 works perfectly well, you just have a bee in your bonnet about frankly very little.
