He's heading to Sonos

Microsoft is saying goodbye to yet another executive.

According to Xbox Wire, Chief Product Officer of Xbox Marc Whitten is leaving the company after joining the Xbox team in 2000. He's reportedly moving on to become Chief Product Officer of Sonos.

“I have had the extreme pleasure over the last 14 years to work on the greatest product with the greatest team and for the greatest community,” said Whitten. “Xbox is so special because of the amazing team I’ve had the opportunity to work with and because our fans are the most incredible fans on the planet. It has been the highlight of my career to work on a product so loved. It’s incredibly tough to leave but I am confident the best days are ahead for Xbox fans, in the capable hands of a very talented team.”

Whitten's team will now report to Terry Myerson, executive vice president responsible for the teams that build software platforms and experiences for Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox.

Back in January, Corporate VP of Microsoft’s Media and Entertainment Group Blair Westlake resigned after a decade spent with the company. He reportedly left because of the latest restructuring efforts.

Many other executives outside of Xbox have resigned or have been reassigned new roles in recent months. Just recently, Tony Bates and Tami Reller left Microsoft. Bates was the former Skype CEO in charge of Microsoft's business development and Reller was the co-head of Microsoft's Windows unit.

Like I said to reclaimer, neither can the PS4, but at least MS isn't lying about it.

That was one game and a poorly coded one at that. Killzone doesnt even look good compared to it's PS3 coutnerpart. A poor example.

I'm half the way through ShadowFall and I have to disagree with you - I think the game looks stunning. Easily among best looking games on ANY platform (PC included) I have seen and played so far - especially lightning effects. For example, the way your shadow projects on dust floating in spotlight beams is downright unreal awesome - spooked me first time I noticed it (though there's invisible creature preying on me :)

It actually runs on their own Umbra 3 engine.

I haven't seen demo, can't say if and how much game was pushed further after demo was released. I've read somewhere that demo was designed to run on 4GB of RAM - maybe because it was previously expected that PS4 will have only that much? - so it was running on less detailed textures etc.

In final game, textures are among the best out there. I've spent a few minutes admiring rocks in first outdoor level. Light is also crazy - on some levels, it is all but overdone, amount of bloom/haze/rays through branches/shadows projections is unreal.

But engine isn't. ??

OK, I wasnt aware they moved off the unreal engine. It looks very similar to me comparing the 2...

Regardless, low res blurry textures is all I see. It ruins it IMHO. There are alot of really great visual features that make it nice, but the textures are what is plastered everywhere.

Isn't killzone a playstation exclusive?
How is it a bad example. People seem to nitpick where the xbox one is weak with all the time.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything! If you bought it, then you did it for a reason so enjoy it! Who cares what other people choose.

It is an exclusive, but that doesnt mean it utilizes what the PS4 can do. It simply doesn't look as good as other games. It looks almost identical to the PS3 version, crappy low res blurry textures ruin every other positive about the graphics.

This might be an answer to our little disagreement about Shadowfall visual quality:

I'm guessing demo you have seen was based on much lower specs build.

Cool. That must be it, it was blaringly obvious that they were really low res low quality textures. It really looked like PS3 not PS4.
