Sony blames "market conditions" for price increase

Gamers in Canada that haven't purchased a PS4 console yet may be kicking themselves when they see what Sony now has in store for them. Sony Entertainment Canada has confirmed that the game console will see its price increased by $50 in Canada.

That means that the purchase price is going from $399.99 to $449.99 for Canadian PS4 fans. Sony is also increasing the price of the DualShock 4 controller and the PlayStation camera as well. Both of those items will see their Canadian prices rise by $5.

As for the reason that Sony is increasing prices, a statement from the company said that the price increase was enacted "to respond to changes in the market environment."

Even with the price increase in Canada, the PS4 is still cheaper than the Xbox One.

The PS4 continues to outsell the Xbox One in the U.S., and the console is also said to be more difficult to find while stocks of the Xbox One are easy to come by in most locations.

The PS4 price hike isn't the first time in recent months that Canadian gamers have seen their costs increase. Video games have also gone up in Canada with most new games on the PS4 and Xbox One increasing from $59.99 to $64.99.

A Microsoft spokesperson has said that it has no plans for increasing prices in Canada.

Well, if it wasn't glaringly obvious already, now it is...

Don't be Canadian.

2 things:

1. You can't help where you're born; and
2. It's still better than any alternative, IMO.

I love being Canadian. I can travel anywhere and still get treated with respect. Canadian beer... better. Canadian bacon... better. Canadian beer w/ Canadian bacon = nirvana.

In all seriousness... it's awesome here.

LOL. OK, this one confuses me. You cant even log in to an anonymous online forum and get respect if you admit your Canadian. ;)

Forget beer and bacon. I love my country where everyone is treated with respect, and I go to the doctor whenever I feel I should, and it doesn't matter if they're gay or not, if I'm gay or not, or any other damn thing. Oh, and I don't have to pack a gun to protect me from you losing your cool and shooting me with the gun you're packing.

Life is much easier when you're happy instead of perpetually terrified of nothing.

Wait what? I think you're confusing the United States with Russia.

I'll take our lowest corporate tax rate in the G7, our much lower crime rate, our stable banks, and you take the cheaper PS4.

Being Canadian is awesome.

I work for a US company and even my supervisors call Canada "a properly civilized nation" and not in jest either.

And considering Americans have to pose as Canadians when they're travelling overseas, uhhh yeah...

We may have given you Justin Bieber and Celine Dion, but you guys also gave everybody else the Kardashian sisters, the Spears sisters, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, the Palins, and Warren Jeffs.

My ANNUAL health premium is some American's MONTHLY health insurance premium. And I can have authentic food from almost anywhere in the world, without ever leaving the City of Toronto. (And no, we do not all smoke crack and/or pot.)

Oh...and we also don't have Fox News. (Thank GOD!)
