They're $1.99 and $9.99 per month respectively

Google is heating up the online storage competition by slashing some of its Google Drive prices.

According to Google's official blog, the company is cutting the price of its monthly 100GB plan from $4.99 to $1.99, and is majorly slashing the price of its 1TB plan from $49.99 to only $9.99 per month.

The 15GB plan remains free, while 10TB is $99.99 per month, 20TB is $199.99 per month and 30TB is $299.99 monthly.

These are some great deals, considering Google Drive competitor Dropbox charges $9.99 per month for 100GB.

"Having launched Google Drive just two years ago, we’re excited that so many people are now using it as their go-to place for keeping all their files," said  Scott Johnston, Director of Product Management at Google. "Today, thanks to a number of recent infrastructure improvements, we’re able to make it more affordable for you to keep everything safe and easy to reach on any device, from anywhere."

Cloud Computing Users Are Losing Data, Symantec Finds
Investors Business Daily
January 16, 2013 3:55 PM

Cloud computing is a ticket to losing data for two in five companies, a new study finds.

"It's really kind of astounding," said Dave Elliott, a cloud marketing manager at storage and security company Symantec (SYMC). The company polled more than 3,200 organizations to gauge hidden costs of the cloud and ways to mitigate problems.

" Forty-three percent of respondents have lost data in the cloud and have had to recover from backups ," Elliott said. And the recovery process has failed at least once for most.

Many cloud services lost data. Not google.

I can tell you my employer switched to google last year. We have not lost any data so far. Not only is it faster, more convenient and simpler, it is extremely reliable.

As a personal cloud and productivity/email suite, $2/Mo is very cheap for 100GB and probably the most reliable cloud service around.

Oh I'm sure Mitch will find a link where someone somewhere lost data on Google Drive, and say you're wrong.

I've been using Google Drive for years. In my experience it beats juggling three USB drives around or whatever.
