Voice will come to iOS and Android
WhatsApp has been making lots of news lately since
Facebook bought the company for $19 billion in total
. The move will certainly make the purchase of WhatsApp one of the biggest tech acquisitions of the year.
WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum is on hand at MWC 2014 and he is talking about some new features for the app. Koum announced that WhatsApp will receive voice calling capabilities in Q2 of 2014. The move will allow WhatsApp and Facebook to compete with services like BBM and KakaoTalk. WhatsApp wants to specifically target Korea where KakaoTalk is the leader in the segment.
“We use the least amount of bandwidth and we use the hell out of it,” Koum said. “We will focus on simplicity.”
The voice calling service will come first to iOS and Android devices. After the roll out on those popular platforms, BlackBerry and Nokia devices will get access to the voice service, but only on specific devices.
Koum also announced that WhatsApp now has 465 million monthly active users and 330 million active daily users. That is 15 million more users than the app had last week before Facebook purchased it.

Sounds like Kik messenger. Who the hell would give their credit card number for an IM program?
