Z2 smartphone and tablet will launch in March

Sony has unveiled a couple new products at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. The first of these new products is the Xperia Z2 smartphone. Sony says that the device is a “premium” waterproof (IPX5/IPX8) smartphone that will launch globally next month.

The biggest news is that the smartphone has a 20.7MP Exmor RS mobile CMOS image sensor, which is capable of shooting video in 4K resolution. Other features include SteadyShot image stabilization and the ability to shoot video in 120 fps for slow motion playback.

The 5.2-inch screen has full HD resolution and uses TRILUMINOS tech for richer colors.

The Xperia Z2 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor running at 2.3GHz and of course supports 4G LTE. Power comes from a 3200mAh internal battery. Thankfully, the Xperia Z2 will come out of the box running Android 4.4 KitKat.

The waterproof Xperia Z2 Tablet has a 10.1-inch TFT display with a full HD display. The tablet has an 8.1MP rear camera and a 2.2MP front-facing camera.

The Xperia Z2 Tablet also runs Android 4.4 KitKat, and it uses a quad-core 2.3 GHz Qualcomm APQ8074 processor.

Pricing is not yet available for either device.

Awesome... but...

The phone sounds fantastic but I don't think I can deal with the buttons all on the side like that. I need a top power button anymore to prevent activation when holstering/drawing in my cellphone pockets on my shorts. And the camera button should be above the volume rocker. My thumb is never ever at the top of my phone on that side, but it is often near the bottom when talking (yes, I talk on my phone sometimes). I understand this is opposite of normal cameras, but oh well. Unless your left index finger was shot off in the war, I'm sure you can manage somehow.
