Canon launched new cameras covering the high-end to the low-end
Canon has announced a slew of new digital cameras today, including the EOS Rebel T5, which is a neutered version of the
T5i D-SLR that was introduced last year
. The T5 has a native resolution of 18MP, uses an APS-C image sensor, and incorporates the DIGIC 4 image processor to help reduce costs (the T5i used the DIGIC 5).
The Rebel T5 has an ISO range of 100-6400 that is expandable to 12800. Other features include a nine-point AF system, 1080p movie mode and a “Live View” rear LCD.

The Rebel T5 will be available in a kit with an EF-S 18-55mm lens for $549.99 this March.
The next new camera is the 12.8MP Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II. This camera has a number of interesting features including a 1.5-inch CMOS sensor, DIGIC 6 image processor, 5x zoom lens, 3-inch LCD, Wi-Fi, and NFC. The PowerShot G1 X Mark II can record full HD video, can shoot RAW images, and has an ISO range of 100-12800.

The G1 X Mark II will launch in April for $799.99.
Another new camera is the 16.1MP PowerShot SX700 HS offering a 30x optical zoom lens. It has integrated Wi-Fi and NFC.

The 13.1MP PowerShot D30 is for the adventurer and is designed to survive water and other hazards. The camera can take photos and video at up to 82-feet below the surface. It can also withstand temperatures from 14 to 104F and survive drops from 6.5 feet. Given that the PowerShot D30 is targeted for extreme outdoor use, it also features onboard GPS so that you can geotag your photos.
The SX700 HS will ship in March for $349.99, with the D30 shipping in April for $329.99.
Canon also unveiled three Elph cameras that are all compact units able to record 720p video. The line includes the Elph 135, Elph 140 IS, and the Elph 150 IS. All of the cameras have a number of auto modes and an Eco mode to extend battery life. The 150 IS has 10x optical zoom, 20MP resolution, and Intelligent IS. It will sell for $149.99 this month.
PowerShot Elph 150 IS
The Elph 140 IS has a 16MP resolution sensor, 8x optical zoom, and will ship this month for $129.99. The final camera is the Elph 135 with 8x zoom, 16MP resolution, and no image stabilization. It will ship this month for $119.99.

needs to get better

Canon needs to step up it's game..especially in the video market. Panasonic is coming out with there GH4 that is supposed to be around 2 grand that actually does 4K video. and their cheaper GH3 was a very well regarded HD camera for video in the mirrorless group.
Black magic pocket cam does HD video in prores and raw format and is priced at $1000. not to mention they have both a 2.5K and 4K for about the price of the 5D Mark III.
Paying $3500 for a DSLR that will only do HD video in mp4 format is way over the top if you ask me. Yeah the focusing is top notch and it does have antialiasing. But still!
And I own a 4Ti and just recently purchase their full frame 6D....great for photography and for video. But they are going to be left behind soon. No one wants to pay 6 grand for a 4 K camera like the D1.

Well, there are situations where packing more abilities into a single device can be a good thing. I own a 5D Mark III, and some nice lenses, but even so, I am still constantly amazed by how smartphone sensors have really started to step it up recently.
If one accepts that a smartphone, for instance, is somewhat a jack of all trades, that does a bunch of things fairly well, then one is prepared for those limitations.
But as SeeManRun said, there are no high end cameras in this announcement. The sad thing is that these are not phones doing stills and video, and gaming, and GPS and Etc... These are cameras. DSLRs and point and shoots. They should at least be better at what they are MAINLY intended for.
Now, if someone is serious about video, Canon does have their EOS Cinema cameras:
(lenses for which are fairly steep)
...or actual high def camcorders ranging form about $1,700 to $8,000 MSRP.
But yes, Panasonic, and even SONY in certain markets are really putting the pressure on Canon, and they really need to simplify their offerings. Then there is RED Camera.
Also, with Nikon's D800 and D800E, Canon is in a tricky spot, as far as Megapixels. Any more pixels that that, and we're talking medium format territory: PhaseOne, Hasselblad, Mamiya/Leaf, and Pentax (not so much Pentax).
Somewhere I read a rumor that Canon may be thinking about buying out or acquiring Phase One. Now that would be cool.
But yeah, paying what they're charging for including these "video" capabilities is silly. If you are into video, there are far better options for far cheaper.
