Ready to feel old? Facebook is celebrating its
Many of us remember hearing about the new social network years ago, quickly discarding our MySpace and Livejournal accounts for the next big thing. It grew fast, offering more than just a place to spill our guts. We could also play games, direct our thoughts to the people of our choosing by creating groups, sending private messages, etc. and also read up on and interact with people, places or things that interested us.
Facebook now has 1.23 billion monthly users. If you don't have a Facebook account, people tend to think something is wrong with you -- or that you're hiding something. Many employers look at your Facebook in the hiring process now. Old flames and friends go to it to find you and see what you're up to. Your grandma awkwardly writes to you on her own wall.
Facebook has entered nearly every facet of our lives in its 10 years of existence. What's really amazing is that it started in a Harvard University dorm room by a young Mark Zuckerberg.
So how did a young adult pull off such a huge product while other companies (like Google with Google+) have failed to capture as much traction? According to Zuckerberg, he cares more.

"When I reflect on the last 10 years, one question I ask myself is: why were we the ones to build this?" said Zuckerberg. "We were just students. We had way fewer resources than big companies. If they had focused on this problem, they could have done it.
"The only answer I can think of is: we just cared more. While some doubted that connecting the world was actually important, we were building. While others doubted that this would be sustainable, you were forming lasting connections. We just cared more about connecting the world than anyone else. And we still do today."
Mark added that the last decade was about bootstrapping the network, and that the next 10 years will be about solving complex problems and bringing Web access to the two-thirds of the world that currently goes without.
"I'm so grateful to be able to help build these tools for you," said Zuckerberg. "I feel a deep responsibility to make the most of my time here and serve you the best I can. Thank you for letting me be a part of this journey."
In celebration of Facebook's big day, the social network is creating a personalized video history for its users. Check it out

There where other things like Lunarstorm before Facebook.. but for some reason other communities never got as big, maybe because they either focused on something specific.. such as say Goths or Teens etc.. while Facebooks have Adults also.
