Amazon Considering Raising Yearly “Prime” Membership by up to $40

More price hikes likely in store for Amazon customers
For those that frequently shop on Amazon.com year round (or even
just during the holiday shopping season
is like a gift from the gods. The service allows customers to get packages delivered to their home with two business days (sometimes even faster if you’re close to an Amazon distribution center), gives users access to a growing digital video library (movies, TV shows, original programming) and special Kindle “lending” perks.
However, it appears that the $79/year Prime membership may be getting a lot more expensive. Citing increased shipping costs; Amazon CFO Tom Szkutak made it clear that the online retail giant is “considering” a price hike for Prime membership.
According to Szkutak, that price increase could be anywhere from $20 to $40, which would put an Amazon Prime membership at $119/year if the bean counters get everything they want.
The writing has been on the wall as Prime has been around at the same $79/year price for nine years, and Amazon
recently bumped the free shipping threshold for non-Prime members to $35
(from $25) on orders.
Amazon has also
come further under assault from tax collectors
in various states, with
North Carolina residents
becoming the latest to “face the music” when it comes to paying taxes on Amazon purchases.

-I get better selection than B&M. It's like having thousands of stores in one place.
-I didn't have to drive and use gas.
-I didn't have to spend time in traffic.
-I didnt have to wait in line, or browse through a poorly organized store.
-I didn't have to deal with a stupid salesperson who knows nothing.
-I didn't have to wait behind the one person who is always holding up the line with what appears to be a complex financial transaction.
-Customer reviews are an invaluable help for deciding.
-Most of the time, it's cheaper than local, or at worst, within a few bucks.
-Returns are ridiculously easy.
-I always got my stuff on time, sometimes I get it quicker than "on time".
-The once or twice a year I pay a few bucks for the overnight shipping, is worth $$$$. You can easily spend the entire cost of prime for one overnight shipping bill elsewhere.
- My time is worth as much to me as anything
- Oh, I get free movies and TV shows? Excuse me if I DON'T bitch about the selection for the cost of $0.00.
-I can rent new releases for $3.99. Can't do that on Netflix. Lot's of services do this, but I already have this one, and that's all I need. Oh and Amazon actually does get some fairly new big name releases and puts them on Prime for free, unlike Netflix. I have netflix too, they fill a different role.
Yea, I can totally see how you guys can complain about it, nit pick, etc. Yes. I would pay more. Not because I'm addicted, but because even at a higher price, I am still getting way more value than I'm paying for.
Forums are proof that you can never make anyone happy all the time, nor can you make everyone happy, any of the time. Give someone a free lunch and they will find something to complain about.

If I was eligible for the free shipping, I'd get it in a heartbeat. But since I need to pay international shipping anyway, I don't bother. For you US citizens who regularly shops online, Prime seems like a bargain, even if they raise the price.
