Pricey window may take some time to replace
has been making a mess on the East Coast of the U.S. this last week. But the snowplows were out and about in New York City streets, and that's when things went terribly wrong for a familiar tech company.
Like the iPhones it sells, the
15-panel iconic glass "Cube"
that caps Apple, Inc.'s (
) Fifth Avenue store proved
a bit fragile to impact
A worker clearing snow Tuesday night apparently
bumped their snow blower
into one of the cube windows, which promptly shattered. The 32-foot window will be an expensive repair job -- the total system cost $7.6M USD to build; replacing the cracked panel in the southeast corner of the cube is expected to cost $450,000 USD.
Hopefully they bought the screen protection plan.

Incidentally, this is the first minor disaster to strike the popular Apple hub, which is open 7 days a week,
24 hours a day
. The store was also flooded back in May due to construction issues.
At least by now the
beleaguered Genius Bar employees
will be read for just about anything, next time disaster strikes.

The glass cube sure looks nice, but apparently it isn't so practical. Probably designed by some high level marketeer. "We need glass, lots of glass! and make it huge!"
The store itself does look nice though. It's underground, but still lets in a lot of natural light, via the glass cube and glass stairway.
I don't get the whole 24/7 thing though. Sure, you might need a burrito at 2 am, or maybe a beer run, but how many people are really buying laptops and electronic gadgets at that hour??
