Mophie Space Pack is available in 16GB or 32GB sizes

Mophie is a known quantity in the iPhone accessory market thanks to its Juice Packs, which are cases that feature an integrated battery. The company is now adding storage to the mix with the new Space Pack.

The Space Pack, like the existing Juice Pack models, features an integrated 1700 mAh battery which doubles the battery life of an attached iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s. However, it also features either 16GB or 32GB of storage onboard. Given Apple’s refusal to provide a microSD slot for storage expansion on its iPhone models, the Space Pack offers a relatively elegant solution for users that need to add more space (and battery life).

The Space Pack can accommodate any file type, while the appropriately named “Space” app can directly access and play movies, music, and pictures.

The 16GB and 32GB Space Packs will begin shipping March 14 for $149.95 and $179.95 respectively.

If you've ever been on a rescue mission in the mountains with awful reception you would cherish every second of battery life you get.

In daily life situations as you know there are charge cycles and the longer the battery life you have the fewer charge cycles you use, the longer your battery lasts. Then again, most people change out cell phones every couple of years anyway, sigh.

you would rely on a iphone(or equivalent) on a rescue mission in the mountains?

seriously, when i go and do something silly in the mountains i either rent a sat phone (if I know i'm going way way out of range of transmitter masts - the Alps are pretty good though so its not an issue in europe really) or take a dumb old indestructible nokia (which have much more reliable 'phone' functions and reception range than any smart phone)

Lithium-ion batteries age even if you don't use them. Charge cycles are important but when the battery hits > 5 years it's going to be degraded either way.

The point is that smartphones have the capability to increase the battery's energy storage capacity with technology in use right now by only increasing the overall size of the entire device by a small amount. Because as it stands right now the energy storage Capacity of batteries in most smartphones leaves much to be desired.

This guy's on to something! If you put more battery in something you get more battery for that something! Revolutionary!!
