Eight winged copter UAV can haul HD camera through the skies, get unique hovering shots

Shenzhen, China-based Da-Jiang ("Great Territory") Innovations (DJI) Science and Technology Co., Ltd. has been earning a name for itself in the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) industry with its Phantom line of quadcopters (similar to Parrot's AR Drone) and its Spreading Wings line of hexacopters.

At its booth at the CES Unveiled event last night, DJI was showing of an incredible octacopter design, dubbed the S1000, which will launch later this year for north of $3,000 USD (pricing has not yet been finalized).  The unique design is expected to offer some unique aerial videography or surveillance option -- plus it's rather wicked looking.

DJI was not showing off the flight system for the S1000, but the Phantom and similar models use a proprietary hand controller that uses your smartphone as its heads up display.

Let's hope the octacopter stays on our side and doesn't go terminator on us.
