Roku teamed up with TV manufacturers TCL and Hisense
A lot of smart TVs today are coupled with set-top boxes because they just don't seem as smart as they claim. But
has put a set-top box
the TV with its latest offering.
Roku has announced its own television called Roku TV, which is exactly what it sounds like: an HDTV with a Roku box built right inside.
Roku teamed up with TV manufacturers TCL and Hisense to build a line of Roku TVs ranging from 32 inches to 55 inches. Of course, the Roku user interface is built into the TV for instant access to 31,000 movies and 1,200 apps (also called "channels").
The TVs also come with a newly-designed remote control, which features only 20 buttons (about half the buttons found on a traditional remote). This makes it a lot easier to use, as Roku only placed necessary and straightforward options on the device.
According to Roku, it will be the one taking care of software updates on the Roku TVs, which means that all Roku TVs will receive them at the same time. It can be a pain when the updates are handled by the manufacturers, because that means some are being updated faster than others.
Roku will, of course, still sell its set-top boxes alongside the new TVs. Just months ago, Roku announced
a new family of streaming media players
, including the Roku 1, Roku 2 and Roku 3.

Having the Roku box seperate from the tv makes it a whole lot more flexible if you want to move the Roku box to another room. Technology is changing really fast, whatever tech you have with the Roku in the TV is one you're going to be stuck with for a few years, no matter the software updates, as that can only go so far.
I have a TV PAD 2 for my wife, and it is convenient to be able to just move it to another TV, eventually may give it to her mother and buy my wife a TV PAD 3. Would I buy a TV with TV Pad built-in, no way.
TV PAD allows my wife to view Asian content on the TV. Majority is Chinese, but some Japanese, Korean, and even Vietnamese content can be viewed. No monthly fees, just buy the box (approx $200) and get Asian content on the tv. Have had it for about 4 months and so far its been worth it to get my wife off my back about getting Asian videos.
