The Moto X has had disappointing sales

Motorola is announcing a new low-cost phone as its high-end Moto X failed to stir up blockbuster sales numbers.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Motorola officially unveiled the new "Moto G" today at an event in Brazil. However, the new device leaked over the weekend when Amazon's UK website featured the Moto G for £160 ($255 USD) without a contract.
The Moto G has a cheaper price tag in the U.S., though. You'll be able to pick one up the 8GB model for $179 or pay $199 for 16GB of storage (no contract necessary).
The Moto G will be available in Brazil and parts of Europe (including the UK) starting today, and will hit the U.S. in January.
Moto G specs include a 720p 4.5-inch display; 8GB/16GB storage options; Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (the Android 4.4 KitKat update will come in January); 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor; 2,070mAh battery; a 5MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera.
The Moto G is also customizable with a variety of colors from traditional black and white to turquoise and purple.

Motorola is likely hoping the affordable price tag of the Moto G will bring in more customers than its flagship Moto X managed after its August 2013 release.
The Moto X, which sells for $585 off-contract on Amazon, only grabbed 500,000 total sales in the third quarter. This is painfully low compared to fellow Android-powered device maker Samsung, which sold 10 million Galaxy S4s in the first month of its April 2013 release.
Motorola even dropped the two-year contract price of a Moto X from $200 to $100 amid the disappointing sales.
Market research firm Strategy Analytics forecasts that Motorola will sell approximately one million Moto Xs in the fourth quarter.

"What does it offer?......."

Why are you so negative on everything? It's NOT a high end phone. It's by far the best low end phone available for the price. It's for people that don't care about that whole list of things you just rattled off, and believe me there are alot of them.

This is a fantastic smartphone for $179 off contract . THAT is what it offers.

This just left me with a feeling that I'd be missing out on too many features. Maybe I need to look at other offers around $200 mark to get the right picture...
My negativeness may also have something to do with a the fact that I imagine the mid-range phone to be completely different: dual-core A9/A15, 4-4.5" 1280x720 screen, 1.5 (but hopefully 2) GB of RAM, SD slot and a beefier, user-replaceable battery. Oh yes, and dual band WiFi, for those places where everybody clogs the 2.4GHz band. Moto G manages to miss all those targets. It get the price right, though.

You might look at the galaxy light, I think it has LTE and is priced at $240.

If you look around you won't find anything better than the G at the $180 mark.

You would be very hard pressed to find a better phone at that price. If it was, it would be a massive inventory reduction sale. This is day one release price.

This thing stomps all over that Nokia 520 garbage. The screen alone makes this the best budget smartphone out there.

Good move by GoogleRola.

Nokia (or any other WP device) is not on my shopping list, but that doesn't change the fact that you haven't seen the screen on Moto G yet. The Nexus 5 has 33% less contrast than its G2 sibling, I wouldn't expect wonders at $180.
