The Moto X has had disappointing sales
is announcing a new low-cost phone as its high-end Moto X failed to stir up blockbuster sales numbers.
The Wall Street Journal
, Motorola officially unveiled the new "Moto G" today at an event in Brazil. However, the new device leaked over the weekend when Amazon's UK website featured the Moto G for £160 ($255 USD) without a contract.
The Moto G has a cheaper price tag in the U.S., though. You'll be able to pick one up the 8GB model for $179 or pay $199 for 16GB of storage (no contract necessary).
The Moto G will be available in Brazil and parts of Europe (including the UK) starting today, and will hit the U.S. in January.
Moto G specs include a 720p 4.5-inch display; 8GB/16GB storage options; Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (the Android 4.4 KitKat update will come in January); 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor; 2,070mAh battery; a 5MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera.
The Moto G is also customizable with a variety of colors from traditional black and white to turquoise and purple.
Motorola is likely hoping the affordable price tag of the Moto G will bring in more customers than its flagship Moto X managed after its August 2013 release.
, which sells for $585 off-contract on Amazon, only grabbed 500,000 total sales in the third quarter. This is painfully low compared to fellow Android-powered device maker Samsung, which sold 10 million Galaxy S4s in the first month of its April 2013 release.
Motorola even dropped the two-year contract price of a Moto X from $200 to $100 amid the disappointing sales.
Market research firm
forecasts that Motorola will sell approximately one million Moto Xs in the fourth quarter.

Another excellent choice for a Smartphone is the brand new ThL W100 priced at $164 -- with a Quad core processor, a 4.5" high resolution screen, dual SIM slots and most of the same features typical of smartphones $100 more and works on AT&T, T-Mobile and Straight Talk.
One U.S.source carrying this contract-free model is Tab l e t S p r i nt--

I just checked and it is limited to 850 and 2100 Mhz HSPA. Pretty useless in North America.
