Pars prototype rescue drone is faster than a human lifeguard in testing

Although drones are mainly in the news these days for the militaristic aspects, they can also be used to save lives. RTS earlier this year showed off a flying drone, Pars, which is designed to help rescue drowning victims. The prototype of that flying rescue robot is now being tested at the Caspian Sea near Iran.
 
The drone is designed to be able to independently find drowning victims in the ocean and then drop floating rings to them. Testing of the prototype drone kicked into high gear after six students drowned in the Caspian Sea this past July.

 
The robot is capable of dropping floating rings to multiple drowning victims during a single “mission”. In its intended usage scenario, the drone would provide quick relief to a trouble swimmer by dropping flotation rings, thus allowing the human rescuer to swim to the scene to provide further assistance without being hindered [en route] by the rescue devices.
 
The flying drone can stay aloft for 10 minutes and has a maximum speed of 10 m/s. The design of the drone gives it a useful range of 4.5 km.
 
More importantly, the designers are touting their rescue drone as superior alternative to a human lifeguard. In recent testing, a person that was “simulating drowning” 75 meters from the coastline was rescued by a human lifeguard in 91 seconds. However, the Pars drone was able to accomplish the feat in 22 seconds.

that would be quite an engineering feat, to make a quadcopter that can support someone's weight in very turbulent air (burning building). and it wouldn't be nearly as small as you'd want it to be.

I can see the chalanges, but it might be possible. You just need to make it powerful enough to hold 300lbs in the air.

Or perhaps it could just bring up a rope they could tie to something and repell down. – or even a parachute - or a gas mask so they can navigate through the fire.

That might work elsewhere, but if you were going to deploy it in the US it'd probably have to be able to lift twice that weight.

Which is slightly tongue-in-cheek regarding our fatness...but also think about our litigious nature as well. Say momma's house catches fire, and the only way to save her is with the Lift-O-Matic drone. But momma's too GD fat for the drone, and it can't get her out, so she dies.

Guess how long it will take momma's kin to sue the living f%ck out of the rescue workers, the drone manufacturer, the municipality, etc. for not having made a drone that was big enough to lift momma's fat a$s out of harm's way. Because it's not momma's fault that she was so fat she couldn't fit through the door anymore - it's your fault that you didn't bring a drone the size of an Apache gunship.

Yes, it could actually bring a rope to tie to pre-existent supporting points to carry people from one building to the near ones.
One rope for the link , another one to recover the pulley
I think it should be done immediatly.
