Apple Reportedly Developing 4.7/5.5-Inch, Curved iPhone Displays

According to a report from
, Apple plans to release 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone models in the third quarter of 2014. Both versions will reportedly feature curved glass screens (more specifically, the displays will "curve downward at the edges").
Offering various iPhone form factors could be a smart idea for Apple, considering its main competition -- Samsung's Android-powered phones -- sell at many different sizes and price points.
This method is definitely working for Android phones. According to
, Google's operating system grabbed 79.3 percent of global Q2 2013 market share while Apple's iOS claimed just 13.2 percent.

Apple traditionally kept its iPhones at 3.5 inches, but broke that tradition when it released the iPhone 5 at 4 inches. The most recent members of the iPhone family -- the 5C and 5S -- have kept that 4-inch display.

The Wall Street Journal
back in July, which said Apple was testing larger
iPhone screens at 4.7 and 5.7 inches
. That WSJ article also mentioned that Apple was testing a 13-inch iPad.
Aside from changing up its display sizes and adding some curves,
reported that Apple is also working on new pressure-sensitive sensors. However, these sensors won't be ready in time for next year's iPhone release(s).
The sensors will be able to tell the difference between heavy and light touches on the screen. It's currently in testing.
fiscal 2013 fourth quarter earnings
showed 33.8 million iPhone sales, which beat analyst expectations of 31 million. It's not yet clear how many of those were 5S' and 5Cs, but it definitely beat the year-ago quarter's 26.9 million iPhone sales.

Well let me give you my opinion from the other side of the fence.
I never really like tablets, because they offer a subset of the functionality of notebooks/netbooks (although win8 is changing that). The way I see it is this: If you can carry a tablet with you (i.e. if you're carrying a bookbag or knapsack), then you can carry a light notebook. It's not surprising that most of the market has moved towards smaller tablets (even iPad buyers).
My phone, OTOH, is on me all the time, even when I don't have a bag with me. They can do absolutely everything tablets can do, so might as well get on as big as my pocket can take. I, like most people, put my phone in my pants' pockets.

With regard to tablet or laptop, in a way i agree, but i also disagree. If i could afford it, i would very much be tempted to replace my 10 inch tablet with an ultrabook. But as things stand, there is still a distinction between the two. My main reason for a tablet over an ultrabook (a laptop or netbook does not compare at all imo) is that of price. For me one of the key requirements is battery life, and for a laptop, netbook, or ultrabook, you either have to have something very bulky, or something very expensive. Tablets offer far superior battery life for a fraction of the price, at the cost of performance and functionality.
It is all personal preference though, so it's more a discussion than trying to claim one is better than the other. In the instance of a phone always being on you, i agree, but in my situation, my phone is never used. I do not want game and video capabilities when out and about, else i'd have made the compromise and bought a note or some such.
It's one of the reasons i like android over apple. With android you can chose whatever fits your requirements whether it is a little phone you can forget about or a monster that will do everything you could ever need, as opposed to a one size fits all business model.
