New Lexus to debut November 20

Lexus has announced that its new RC coupe will make its world debut on November 20 at the Tokyo Motor Show. There will be two RC models displayed at the show including the RC 350 and the RC 300h.

The RC 350 will use Toyota’s venerable 3.5-liter V6 engine, while the 300h will use a hybrid system featuring a 2.5-liter gasoline engine. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and hybrid system is very similar to the same powertrain used in the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Toyota Avalon Hybrid, and the Lexus ES 300h, however, it’s been adapted for the RC 300h’s rear wheel drive chassis.

When used in the Toyota/Lexus sedans, the hybrid system has a total system output of 200hp and can deliver fuel economy numbers up to 40 mpg combined. However, we’re assuming that the RC 300h will have a bit more power and not nearly as lofty fuel economy aspirations given its more sporting nature.

Lexus says that the RC has the widest and lowest Lexus spindle grille used in one of its vehicles so far. The RC 350 and 300h are 184.8-inches long, 54.9-inches high, and 72.4-inches wide. Both models use a 107.5-inch wheelbase and are designed to hold four people.

Lexus engineer Junichi Furuyama explained, "One thing I want to emphasize, the aim of introducing this new model RC is to add a new level of excitement to the existing Lexus lineup. This is not an IS Coupe, it is the RC, a new coupe in its own right. It is an independent model. It’s not a deviated version of the IS so it has its own unique styling and its own unique performance.”

The concept version of the RC was unveiled back in September of last year.

I agree completely, I really don't like what Lexus is doing with their front ends. I'm sure its a great car but at this price point it has to look great.

Where do you see a price?

Its a lexus, so it won't be cheap is my guess. It will probably have a similar price point with a BMW 3 series.

Agreed, that front is hideous. Like some fiberglass body kit a teenager would install on his '92 civic. At Lexus price points, it's got to look understated and respectable, not like an angry kitchen appliance.
