Microsoft wants to show that it's still all about the gaming

As the launch date nears for both Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4, the two seem to be engaging in an ad war.

Microsoft just released its global ad for the Xbox One, simply titled "Invitation." The ad focuses heavily on pure gaming while only throwing in a few seconds of voice commands, Skype and movies. This is likely because it's a global ad, and not everyone will be able to take advantage of certain features like the TV/movies content.

Take a look at the Xbox One ad here:

Microsoft is also likely pushing this sort of ad to get back to its gaming roots. Sony recently released an ad for the PS4 that focused on the nostalgia of the brand, showing the evolution of two friends and their love for PlayStation over the years. By injecting clips from "Titanfall" and "FIFA 14" into the Xbox One ad, Microsoft is showing that it's still all about the gaming as well.

Check out Sony's PS4 ad here:

Microsoft announced that the gaming console will be available in 13 markets as of November 22, 2013. It will make its way to other markets in 2014.

What I take away from these ads is that the only game I want to play that any of shown is Titanfall which is coming out on my PC. If it wasn't well then MS would have a shot at getting my money.

People keep arguing that the PS4 is the gamer's choice, but what game are you actually wanting to play on it? Killzone... another GT... the same old crap from last generation updated.

I'm sitting this console war out until someone actually makes an exclusive game worth a dam.

Oh, I wouldn't buy any of the consoles. Even if they had the best marketing in human history, I have no compelling reason to stop being a PC gamer exclusively.

If it wasn't for a few exclusive like The Last Of Us or Red Dead Redemption I wouldn't have any need for a console except as a Blu Ray player.

The XB1 offers nothing I can't already play on my PC. My PC is connected into my home theater through my wall anyways, so if there is a cross-platform release I just do that instead and it looks 1000x better. I'm not a Halo fan either, so whatever.

It makes me laugh when someone makes such an immature comment when stating that PC gamers are the adults...

I spend most of my time gaming on a PC, but I have a Wii U because there are gaming experiences on there that just can't be had anywhere else. I also have an Xbox 360 as, sometimes, it's nice to hang out in the living room and play a game. I don't play FPS on there, but I do enjoy Assassin's Creed and other series on it.

A true gamer doesn't let things like the platform a game is on dictate enjoyment of a game. You play games because they are fun, offer an escape and sometimes have a brilliant story.

I'll probably get an Xbox 1 in a couple years.

Funny you mention the WiiU. What started out as not that great is looking like the system to beat for the holidays. This article goes over it really well.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-10-26-the-s...

Several PS4 launch titles got pushed back and everything I'd play on XB1 is something I'm playing on PC instead. That leaves the WiiU, which is shaping up to have an excellent library.

Pikmin 3 is fantastic, Wind Waker HD is amazing, and the new trailers for Super Mario 3D World are the best of the upcoming next-gen games: http://youtu.be/dpIwcblsO_k

PC + WiiU is looking like the most solid hardware setup right now. I'm getting a PS4 because I need a second Blu-ray player (and my gadget lust is a sickness), but I don't expect I'll be playing it much now that the PS4 launch titles I wanted are pushed till next year.

Either way, PC, console, whatever, games are games. Get the hardware with the best software, that's all that matters. A lot of the times consoles have something I can't play on PC, and that's where Sony and Nintendo have it nailed down. The only real reason I'm passing on XB1 is that it has too many ports I'll play on my PC instead.

I have a Wii U and I love it. It's the only console that is fully backwards compatible and therefore has the largest library of available titles by a huge landslide. There is far more to gaming than resolution and pixel quality and everyone except Nintendo seems to have forgotten that. The Wii U isn't a powerhouse device but it has great games, great games on the horizon, and a huge selection of great Wii games. I don't need 1080p to enjoy gaming. Mario Kart on my old Nintendo 64 still gets a ton of play time with friends. I actually feel bad for people who can't enjoy games unless they are graphically stunning.

I'm looking forward to buying a PS4 some time next year but I'm definitely not wasting any money on it in 2013. Why would I? I'm still getting a ton of enjoyment out of GTA V anyway.

You'll love Mario Kart 8, maybe the most fun game I played at E3 this year.

1080p, great tracks, FUN.

People always doubt on Nintendo but they somehow manage to deliver the goods. The Wii wasn't a powerhouse but the Super Mario Galaxy games were works of genius, totally worth it just for those alone.

After playing GrandTheft 5 on the PS3, neither would I. Even with the entire game installed on the hard drive, the load times are ridiculous.

They seriously didn't think the next gen consoles should have SSD's if they expect them to stay relevant for the next five to seven years?

At current prices it makes a lot more sense for Microsoft/Sony to go with HDD than SSD. The $399/$499 would easily become $599/$699 which is getting way outside affordable ranges for average consumers. They can also switch to an SSD with a later revision in a couple of years but right now SSD prices are way too high. I'm actually beginning to wonder if SSD prices are every truly going to enter affordable ranges. Prices are still absolutely outrageous.

The load times on GTA V are long but you don't load very often so it really isn't that bad. My biggest complaint about the game is that I can't go from a public online game to a private online game without switching to single player and then making a private game. This causes it to load the single player campaign and then load the online which is super annoying.

With lack of backwards compatibility, membership fees, and expensive games you can build a decent $1000 game rig and still come out way ahead.

Besides, it sounds like both Sony and MS are looking at offering streaming services of their exclusives (new and old). So rather than dropping money on their hardware then I'll just get a subscription for a few months to get my fix on exclusives and be done with it. PC is definitely the way to go. There is no way that Consoles are going to be relevant in 5 years.

If either platform offered backwards compatibility, I would be more willing to upgrade. I have a large library of 360 games I still enjoy playing and the same goes for my PS3. I do not have any room in my Entertainment center for another console. The lack of titles that I am interested in, does not bolster their case.
