Microsoft wants to move existing stock of original Surface Pro tablet

Microsoft is trying hard to get consumers to purchase its Surface Pro tablet. Back in August, Microsoft reduced the price for its Surface Pro tablet by $100 making the 128 GB Surface Pro available for $899 and the 64 GB version available for $799. Microsoft is now announced that it's taking an additional $100 off the price of these tablets.

The Surface Pro 128 GB tablet will be available for $799. The 64 GB Surface Pro will sell for $699 with the 256 GB version available for $999. These discounts are specifically for the original Surface Pro, not the recently announced Surface Pro 2 tablets.

The deal is valid from October 22 through December 31 of 2013, or while supplies last.

This is clearly a moved to get rid of all the stock of Surface Pro tablets left laying around and may help spur sales during the holiday shopping season.

For comparison the Surface 2, which is the new version of the Surface RT, sells for $449 with 32 GB of storage. The Surface Pro 2 is available starting at $899.

It's a good deal. A $699 Surface Pro, with stylus? A 64GB iPad costs $699. Battery life will be relatively atrocious (average for an ivy bridge ultraportable) but this is still a pretty excellent deal. You can manage windows down to ~10GB if you know what you're doing as well.

You've obviously not used Windows since Windows 95.

Time to rethink your mental health.

Why are both of you comparing a Surface Pro to an iPad. That's like comparing a McLaren MP4-12c to a Ford Fiesta.

The Surface Pro is an ultrabook with a removable keyboard. Call it a tablet all you want, but it isn't a traditional tablet.

It's also the best Windows 8 experience there is, because lets face it, Windows 8 sucks without a touch screen.

"That's like comparing a McLaren MP4-12c to a Ford Fiesta"

Not that drastic but McLaren MP4 vs Mercedes SLR and here. I will take the SLR since the MP4 is way too hard to drive and control besides the insurance is going to cost more than a Fiesta a year!.

The iPad is more nimble in many tasks while its battery lasts and lasts. It is heck of a lot lighter.

Nimble? It can't do anything over a phone... and I already have a phone.

It is actually a traditional tablet. A tradition from long before Apple came and made you forget what a tablet really is.

Windows 8 is very stable and last I checked wasn't it iOS that needed a security patch every few weeks? As for reboots this uses full blown Windows 8 and I have not had to reboot my Windows 8 unless I installed a complicated desktop program, no app needed me to reboot. As for using them I would go with the one that allows me to use all tablet apps in their store AND every Windows program every made as well, it is way more useful than a tablet and mobile OS. This isn't Windows RT we are talking about here the Pro uses a full feature OS.

Yup, between the two I'd pick the one able to run Eve Online, Civ 5, LoL, WoW, PoE, Diablo 3, XCOM or most any other game; Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, CorelDRAW, VDub, AviSynth, AviDemux, 3DS Max, Maya, Autocad, Apache, PHP, MySQL, MS Visual Studio, Android Studio, or most any Windows software ever made. Hell, even a VirtualBox with OSX would not surprise me.
But you are free to stick to your Angry Birds on an oversized phone that can't even make calls for all I care.

You do know the reason there aren't a lot of viruses is because there aren't enough of your Apples around for the virus makers to care, right?
