Announcement comes from companies CEO JK Shin

Samsung launched its Galaxy S4 smartphone back in April and the device has proven to be incredibly popular. It took the smartphone about two months to sell 20 million units and four months after launch to hit 30 million units. As the phone has aged and competition increased, it's sales pace has declined.

The Galaxy S4 sold only about 5 million units in August. However, Samsung CEO JK Shin recently stated that over 40 million Galaxy S4 smartphones have been sold globally since the device launched. Considering the phone is been around for about six months, this is an impressive feat for Samsung.

Samsung has continued to roll out some interesting new products following the launch of the Galaxy S4. Most recently, Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. The Galaxy Note 3 has impressed both reviewers and customers; however, the Galaxy Gear smartwatch has proven to be rather unloved in many reviews.

The GS4 is the king of high end Android devices, nothing comes close. Competing devices from HTC, LG, Moto, Sony, at best sell 1/10th of what Samsung does. Other Android devices that are selling well don't compete with flagship devices or iPhones, they're low end. That's where most of Android's growth has been and where it continues to be as the high end tops out.

This doesn't mean that other high end Android phones are bad, devices by HTC and LG are better I'd say, its just that nobody has the muscle that Samsung does.

I fail to see the relevance of your point. I was saying you cant compare one Android phone to the iPhone in sales #'s. The iPhone is one phone per year on the whole platform, the GS4 is one of many.

Nevermind, look who is posting. Captain soapbox... YEs Takin, the iPhone sells more and earns more and is more prefered by the upper class/wealthy and has wings. Happy?

You should learn to relax.

The point is in response to this: "the GS4 is one of many from many sifferent makers on the other platform."

Disregard manufacturer because that is far less relevant than hardware tier. When taking low end devices out of the equation there are only a few relevant names: GS4, iPhone, HTC One. That's the point. The explosion in low end devices has no influence on someone buying an iPhone or a GS4 or an HTC One.

You saying you don't understand this point is like saying you don't understand why eMachines or netbooks don't have any influence on people who buy better hardware. Someone who would buy better hardware clearly has no interest in something low end. If someone is buying a GS4 they're doing it because they are getting better hardware than an Android device that is $100 or free with contract, and they would almost never consider getting such a device.

These are two discreet markets with very low crossover.

Either quality is the driving factor or price is, and rarely do the two meet. The only competition the GS4 has in the Android space is getting absolutely crushed by them. They're literally selling at ten times the rate of their Android competition.

You keep thinking that, I am tiring of the same conversation. You are like talking to a wall with a broken record inside of it.

ooh look, a chance to hijack another topic and get back on my soapbox. Oh boy....... Yawn.

You keep thinking these are based on opinion when its all about hard facts and reality.

But no, your right, GS4 sales are clearly being cannibalized by Galaxy Reverb, LG Mach, and Kyocera Rise sales.

Incredible logic you have there.
