too many watts

I'm tired of all these new 700 and 800 and 900 watt power supplies. Not everybody runs an Extreme Edition CPU with Quad SLI and a dozen hard drives.

I've got a mid range GPU, power efficient CPU, and 2 hard drives. Measured at the wall, the highest consumption I've seen, while running intensive benchmarks, is ~270 watts. At idle, it's ~140 watts.

If you look at the efficiency graph of a power supply, it runs less efficiently as you approach either end of the graph. For my PC, max efficiency would be attained with a 350w or a 400w power supply. But choices there are slim. If I want a high-end product, like Corsair AX series for example, they start at 750 watts and go up from there! Where are all the high end "normal" sized power supplies??
