Nokia continues to show off unique ways to differentiate its smartphones

From colorful body designs to an industry-leading camera, Nokia Oyj.'s (HEX:NOK1V) device division -- now officially a subsidiary of Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) -- has seemed a step ahead of the competition in terms of device differentiation.

The latest leaked images of the upcoming Lumia 1520 "phablet" (phone-cum-tablet) show that trend continuing.  The 6-inch smartphone isn't exactly a revolution form-factor-wise, and its hardware...
  • quad-core Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) Snapdragon 800 SoC
  • on-die LTE (via Snapdragon chip)
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 32GB of storage
  • 20-megapixel rear-facing camera
  • 6-inch 1080p (1920x1080 pixel) display
...is strong, but by no means exclusive.

However, Nokia has a rather unique accessory for the device, shown in the latest pics dubbed "Treasure Tag".  You can attach this accessory to your keychain and other precious items you tend to lose, and then locate them using an NFC (near-field communications) enabled app on your Lumia.

In addition to the Lumia 1520 and its Treasure Tag, the latest leak -- courtesy of EV Leaks -- shows a picture of a small, colorful iPod Nano-like MP3 player dubbed the "Nokia Guru".  Both devices are expected to be unveiled at a Nokia-Microsoft press event in Abu Dhubai on Tuesday.

In related news, Nokia reportedly sold 8 million Lumia Windows Phone devices in Q3 2013, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.  Nokia-Microsoft are gunning for Apple, Inc.'s (AAPL) number two spot.  While they have a long way to go before they pass the popular iPhone, they already have achieved that goal in a handful of countries, such as India, and has achieved double-digit market share in some European nations.

Sales of 8 million in Q3 would be modest growth from the 7.4 million Lumias Nokia moved in Q2 2013.
