The stimulus package is Rockstar Games' apology for all the troubles during the first days of GTA Online

"Grand Theft Auto Online" gamers will get half a million dollars in GTA$ just for playing this month.

Rockstar Games -- developer of GTA -- announced today that it will offer GTA Online players a stimulus package of $500,000 in GTA currency just for playing the game or signing up to play it in the month of October.

The stimulus package is an "I'm sorry" gift from Rockstar Games for the cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters during the first days of GTA Online.

Before receiving your GTA Online cash, though, gamers are instructed to install the upcoming GTAV title update (1.04), which will allow Rockstar Games to provide the GTA$ stimulus cash to players. It will also fix vehicle purchase loss issues, and gamers can expect to see it next week.

The half a million will be delievered to October gamers in two separate deposits of $250,000 a piece. Rockstar didn't say when these two deposits will take place, but said it would update gamers at Rockstar Newswire

However, Rockstar Games said it expected deposits to start as early as next week.

Sweet. I guess I can stop robbing 7/11's then. Stupid Habib never carries much more than $1000.

In the short run it is great, in the long run, i do not think so. I see it much like using cheats on gta games. It's all fun and games for that 30 minutes sat with a friend running around with a 6 star wanted level, but when you have huge stockpiles of money, that the story did not intend, things can get a bit boring and easy with regard to the story missions. I enjoyed playing gta as it was supposed to be played, make you run around and work to get the cash to buy a property and unlock a new gaggle of missions, or enter a mission knowing that you only have so much amunition, not being able to buy whatever you liked.

If you simply want to run around shooting everyone, typically the 15 year olds who shouldn't be playing the thing, then it's great, but if you want to actually enjoy the story, then not so great imo. If we just wanted every game to be made easier so we could get to the end faster, then we'd just stick it on easy. Last i looked GTA doesn't have a difficulty setting, so i guess a big wad of cash is the way to go about simplifying things and removing any tactics and such from the equation.

The cash is for multiplayer only and is because many players such as myself lost hundreds of thousands of earned cash, property, and levels due to server glitches. This has nothing to do with single player. I personally lost all my possession twice which amounted to about $270k plus all the levels. Eventually I stopped buying things and just started putting all the money into the bank.

The $500k per player sounds like a lot but the prices to acquire weapons and property online is really high. The cheapest apartment is $200k and the next is $400k I believe.

Ah right. Thanks for clearing that up. Makes a bit more sense.

Conversely, I was playing since Day 1 online and I haven't lost a thing... your loss is my gain! Thanks!

Not really since there is an infinite amount of money to be earned. When I lost everything you gained nothing.
