Grand Theft Auto V Earns $1 Billion in First 3 Days

"Grand Theft Auto V"
is shattering sales records with $1 billion in sales in just the first three days of availability.
Take-Two Interactive -- which is the distributor of the hot new video game -- announced that GTA V's $1 billion sales in three days blasts the record of any other video game, film or entertainment product ever released.
In its first day alone, GTA V grossed over an
enormous $800 million
“Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. “We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V.”
GTA V cost between $200 million and $250 million and took about five years to make. The last installment in the series -- GTA IV -- was released in 2008.
For comparison purposes, Activision Blizzard Inc's "Call Of Duty: Black Ops II" took 15 days to hit $1 billion in global sales after being released in November 2012. Its first-day sales hit $500 million.
GTA V gameplay allows gamers to cruise around a fictional world based on real-life locations such as Los Angeles. For those with youngsters, it does feature adult material like carjacking, picking up prostitutes and murdering bystanders (which is typical for the series).

With all due respect....the game is about violence and breaking the law. I couldn't care less if this game is pirated, but I do care that it WILL have a negative effect on players social tenancies towards committing a violent response in their own life.
Maybe it's based off of life in Detroit, referring of course, to the recent gang related shooting of 13 individuals in Detroit. Video games imitation life...or is it life imitating video games.
Either way, I just don't think this "Game" is a good idea. After people play this "Game" for days, what's going to be the next level in "Game" play...taking it to the real streets.
I don't believe in censorship as an American, but I do believe this game will contribute nothing to our society and only serves to fill the pockets of the developers...who care nothing about the impact of this "Game" on our society.
As a society, we should be raising our expectations of what IS acceptable/reasonable. You all know that underage kids already are playing this game and you can't say 100% beyond the shadow of a doubt...that it does not have a negative affect on the players. You'd have to be wearing blinders to think it won't have an affect on ones real life social interactions after playing it for weeks/months.
Just a very sad statement of how money overrides social standards.

If you are pointing at this game and saying it is the cause of violent and criminal behavior, I would point at the world 20 years ago and challenge you to show me the difference in crime rates.
I would bet you don't really find a difference that you can prove is tied to violent games.

It is asshats with attitudes like yours that assumes that media is the cause of violence and poor social attitudes. The real cause is that kids do not go outside and interact with their friends anymore face-to-face. They are too busy sitting on their butts in front of a tv, computer or console.
Sure it keeps them off the streets and out of the hands of the social deviants, but when they finally do go out and interact with their peers, they have learned precious little about real-life social interaction. That education requires that a kid goes out, make his social mistakes and learn (sometimes the hard way by getting his ass kicked) how to deal with society.
Don't blame it on games, Blame it on parents that have no clue how to prepare their kids for participating in society.
