It made $800 million in the first 24 hours

"Grand Theft Auto V" is shattering sales records with $1 billion in sales in just the first three days of availability.

Take-Two Interactive -- which is the distributor of the hot new video game -- announced that GTA V's $1 billion sales in three days blasts the record of any other video game, film or entertainment product ever released.

In its first day alone, GTA V grossed over an enormous $800 million

“Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. “We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V.”

GTA V cost between $200 million and $250 million and took about five years to make. The last installment in the series -- GTA IV -- was released in 2008.

For comparison purposes, Activision Blizzard Inc's "Call Of Duty: Black Ops II" took 15 days to hit $1 billion in global sales after being released in November 2012. Its first-day sales hit $500 million.

GTA V gameplay allows gamers to cruise around a fictional world based on real-life locations such as Los Angeles. For those with youngsters, it does feature adult material like carjacking, picking up prostitutes and murdering bystanders (which is typical for the series).

The game was released September 17 and is available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Not entirely. I do believe there is a majority of pirates who will never buy a game they will forever pirate there is no changing that.

However Im positive not every pirate is poor and cant afford the game but pirates out of convenience. You dont have to be tech savy today just a bit resourceful. Im also positive the less resourceful ones look for their buddy to provide that or offer it up to them if they had it. Hey dont buy it Ill get you a copy mentality.

With that If a pirated version of the game were available for download for PC they would just download a cracked PC version instead. The logic being why not its $50-$60.00 they can spend on something else and thats a chunk of change. Being there is no PC version easily available for download if they want to play the game or with friends they will bite the bullet.

The second part is the friends of the pirate/resource well Joe cant get me a cracked copy Ill just go out and buy it this time I dont want to be left out everyone else is playing and I want in.

Want or Need to play > Convenience of obtaining cracked copy.

I play pirated games, and I'm not ashamed of it.

I also have plenty of games that I bought because I have played them before and I wanted to buy them. Usually, I try game from illegal source (no demos anymore) and If I like game I buy it.

If I have to buy a game I did not tried I would rather not buy it. I think pirating is helping PC sales of GOOD titles, that are worth to spend money on.

Hats a good point I can think of many titles I purchased that weren't worth the cd they were printed on much less if it came on a napkin. Or the trial version which has features disabled then when you purchase it the disabled features don't live up to expectations or they release a new version and look for more money on you upgrading.

If Adobe would only wake up and smell the coffee on pricing their products for everyone instead of saying you can have a career in them. I bet a lot more people would buy the product instead of pirate it.
