GTA V is a resounding success
I don't think there is anyone out there who expected
Grand Theft Auto V
to be anything other than a massive success. And true to form, the numbers are in for the first day of GTA V sales and sales for the game have broken records for publisher Take-Two Interactive.
GTA V racked up $800 million in sales globally during the first 24 hours of availability. That figure makes GTA V the most successful member of the Grand Theft Auto franchise in the first 24 hours of availability.
The game launched on September 17 for the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
"All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V. Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry's new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two.
The game was developed by Rockstar North and published by Take-Two Interactive. GTA V also has access to Grand That Auto Online, which is an open world game set to launch on October 1, 2013. Access to the online world is included with the game purchase.

RE: Meanwhile ...

Meanwhile more and more jobs are going to be made obsolete by automation, done by those very engineers and science majors.
Not everybody's smart enough to be an engineer. What are those people going to do? They're still human they deserve a full life even if they aren't needed for work anywhere.
It's a perfect place for the videogame industry to step up. Anybody can play games, litteraly anybody. For those left out, new games will be created to draw them in. Heck, the Wii was an huge console succes just because it drew in whole groups of people that never even considered gaming before.
Don't forget, Entertainment is the only basic human need that we humans just can't get enough of. I'd say take advantage of that rather then dismiss it and try to go back to the industrial revolution.
"If you look at the last five years, if you look at what major innovations have occurred in computing technology, every single one of them came from AMD. Not a single innovation came from Intel." -- AMD CEO Hector Ruiz in 2007
